Great retirement community. The managers, Mike and Miriam do a great job along with the rest of the staff.

I lived at Pebble Springs for 2 1/2 years. I made many friends there, and had many good experiences. As time progressed, I found that there were several things that did not meet what I wanted and needed. To be specific, the food left a lot to be desired. Pebble touts the Sunday Prime Rib Brunch. It is very good, but the rest of the week is lackluster. For those who are willing to accept any food as long as they don't have to cook, Pebble might fill their needs. The cafeteria style dining with marginal food didn't live up to my expectations. I don't fault the chef. He tries hard, but when I was there he had a budget of $7.61 per day per person. You can't do a lot with that. Anyone considering Senior Living should always ask specifically "how much of my monthly rent is allocated to food?" I failed to do that at Pebble, but learned from my mistake. I am now at Lake Port Square where I am allocated $17 a day, and food is served restaurant-style. There are two formal dining rooms, and an informal restaurant. The food offerings are extensive, and the food is always at the proper temperature. The second thing that attracted me to Lake Port is its campus. The building at Pebble Springs has awesome curb appeal, but if someone prefers beautiful walking trails, gardens, wildlife, outdoor sports, and ponds and lakes, Lake Port excels. I now experience the beauty of Lake Harris as I have my morning coffee sitting on our dock watching all kinds of birds, alligators, etc. Pebble Springs is land-locked. It is a beautiful building, but the outside is boring. A third limitation of Pebble is transportation. There is only one 12 passenger bus which operates 5 days a week. Where I am now, they have three busses, and a fleet of sedans/vans. This allows for 7 day operation, with fun trips taking large groups, transportation to medical appointments, and shopping. My new facility also has a pontoon boat which offers several water trips each week. Pebble Springs offers many activities for those preferring mostly indoor life. Outside activity is grossly limited. Pebble is marketed as "independent living", but many feel that it leans a bit more toward "assisted living". A number of residents are very dependent. For sure it is all-inclusive, but one would be hard pressed to call it resort-like. The on-site managers are constantly having to strike the difficult balance between following the directives from the home office and the needs/desires of the residents. When residents raise issues, they are often told to contact the home office in Nebraska. The Activities Director, Debbie, is fantastic and creative. She offers an amazing array of daily activities, movies, happy hours with music, and outings. She is somewhat stymied by having only a single 12-passenger bus, which is inadequate for the large number of residents who want to participate in her exciting Friday trips. It appears that the home office is not receptive to adding a second bus to accommodate this need. There are front desk personnel at Pebble working 24 hours a day to keep things running smoothly. Sarah is amazing, and effectively fills in for the the managers on their days off. Pebble Springs is a nice facility for some, but not for all.

We have been here since the opening, and have enjoyed our place very much. Our biggest complaint or concern is with the food. As example, today the menu had BLT wrap. I was given a sandwich with no bacon and a 1/4 slice of tomato and lettuce. The other item was tuna salad stuffed tomatoe. Was served tuna salad on a bun. We just believe that the quality doesn't meet what we pay. We still love living here. Other wise all's good.
