I am so angry at the owners of Independence Village (Story Point) based out of Michigan. This organization is greed ridden and predatory. They displaced 30 residents and are firing their staff in their long-term residential care unit in Waukee, only to build a memory care unit which will open in two years. The local staff has dedicated their lives to these seniors and they're throwing them away, like they did my mom. In a formal statement, they have said they have helped to place their residents in new facilities (not true) and are helping staff find new employment (also not true). No one from IV or corporate reached out to find placement for my mom. She is fortunate to have family close by, unlike other residents. Apparently the +12K per month they were charging my mom and other residents wasn't enough. Shame on you!! You are preying on some of our societies most vulnerable people. I do not recommend any of Story Point's facilities. They are a mega corporation that only cares about the bottom line-- not the residents or the employees.

I recently toured Independence Village, and I was incredibly impressed. From the moment I walked in, the environment felt so warm, inviting, and full of life. You can truly see that the staff take great pride in their work—they treat the individuals who live there with such genuine kindness, patience, and respect. It’s heartwarming to see residents living in a place they’ve chosen, surrounded by people who care about them and a community that feels like home. It’s clear that Independence Village isn’t just a place to live—it’s a place where people are valued and well cared for.

It is a privilege to collaborate with Independence Village of Ankeny to address the needs of patients in the memory care unit. As a chaplain with St. Croix Hospice, I have had the honor of supporting both patients and families within the memory care setting. The staff here is exceptional, consistently demonstrating kindness, compassion, and a genuine commitment to their roles. I have had the opportunity to observe Phanice's care for a patient, and her bedside manner was remarkably gentle and soothing. The memory care unit at Independence Village is truly unique. The nurses, CNAs, and all team members engage with the patients in meaningful ways, ensuring they are spoken to rather than at. If there were saints among us, this medical team would certainly qualify. The environment is beautifully maintained and offers numerous opportunities for residents, making it a perfect home away from home for your loved ones or yourselves. I highly recommend Independence Village of Ankeny. As I approach retirement, I would personally choose to reside here. Blessings Chaplain Bella St. Croix Hospice

The WORST care I’ve ever seen. My mother was over medicated and had to be hospitalized because of their negligence. I posted a review before and was removed. Be careful. My mom is now gone as a result. Shame on them for treating good people like another income
