My mother has been at FVB Independent Living for over seven years. We've been happy with her care and the facility. There are plenty of activities and the facility is beautiful. I would only recommend FVB if you protect your loved one and have an attorney look at your contract and beware of any promises. My mother was invited by Freedom Village to enroll in their "hardship" program in 2023. She went through their vigorous eligibility program and was approved. Both the facility and Corporate approved her request. She was approved again the following year and was granted additional funds. To our shock and dismay, after an audit last year my mother was told that she had to repay the funds and they increased her monthly payment substantially. They blamed the issue on us and took no responsibility for their change of heart. They changed the rules two years in and we had no standing due to a clause in the contract. They threatened to sue us if we didn't pay by the end of the year. Since we have so much money and time invested in this place, we have no choice but to keep my mother there.

Unless you have a dedicated caregiver visiting daily, this facility doesn't care of your loved ones. The people working there do the minimum needed and have so many excuses for not doing showers, not dressing them properly (bra on backwards) and the basic task of keeping them clean. They are then parked in hallways and ignored. The facility itself is nice, but we were fooled into thinking the care matched the look of the facility. It does not. Ask them about the employee turnover rate ... Hugely disappointing experience.

Whether you're super-social or more of a homebody...whatever your lifestyle, there's something special for every comfort level. Caring staff, friendly neighbors, gourmet meals...all reminders of why I'm so glad I chose to live in Freedom Village.
