Discovery Village At Dominion

I had a wonderful experience at this senior living community. Angela was incredibly nice, welcoming, and knowledgeable she took the time to answer all of my questions with patience and detail. She made what could have been a stressful process feel comfortable and reassuring. The community itself was clean, vibrant, and thoughtfully designed for residents' comfort and engagement. This is a place that truly cares about its residents and their families. Highly recommend!

Discovery Village Dominion has been a godsend for us a few years ago when we moved mom and dad and they were kind and helpful last year as mom passed. They helped dad move into a one bedroom all the people are so friendly especially Kathy who has been like a family member. We highly recommend Discovery Village to anyone who is in this season of life.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Discovery Village at the Dominion and was incredibly impressed. The community is absolutely beautiful—very well maintained, thoughtfully designed, and it has a warm, welcoming atmosphere the moment you walk in. The grounds and common areas are elegant and you can really tell a lot of care goes into keeping everything looking great. I had the chance to speak with Kathy and Angela from the sales team while I was there, and they were both fantastic. Kathy and Angela were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and took the time to answer all of my questions without ever making the conversation feel rushed. You can tell they genuinely care about helping families find the right fit and they clearly take pride in the community they represent. It made a great impression on me. If you’re looking for a senior living community in the San Antonio / Dominion area, I would definitely recommend checking out Discovery Village at the Dominion and asking for Kathy or Angela.

When my father was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, I chose a facility that appeared to have everything — beautiful common areas, attentive sales staff, every amenity you could ask for. I've since learned that those things don't tell you much about the quality of daily care. During his time there, my father had multiple falls. On one occasion, he was on the floor for over an hour before anyone came — two overnight caregivers were on break at the same time, leaving more than thirty residents unattended. When we brought concerns to administration, we were largely brushed aside. After the contract is signed, family voices tend to carry less weight. Mark Shaffer, the director of sales and operations, was a particular source of frustration. Prior to signing, he was engaged and available. Afterward, requests for meetings were routinely dismissed and concerns went unaddressed. If you work with him, pay attention to how accessible he is once you're a current resident's family — not just a prospective one. There were also serious safety concerns involving my father's wife. An investigation was conducted, and while no formal findings were made, the facility did restrict her from being alone with him — an acknowledgment that something was wrong. Despite this, my father was ultimately asked to leave. We were not notified of his relocation until after it had already happened. If you're researching care options for someone you love, a few things worth looking into before you decide: • Overnight staffing ratios — ask for specifics, not generalities • How incidents and falls are documented and communicated to family • Who to contact when something goes wrong, and how responsive they are • Whether unannounced visits are permitted • Conversations with families of current residents, not just staff A facility's appearance and marketing materials reflect what they want you to see. The quality of care is found in the details — and those are worth taking the time to uncover before you sign anything.
