My mother in law had been a resident at Andara for over 8 years in the assisted living, and over time had to most of her own care, never enough help. After a hospitalization she needed blood sugar checks and occasional insulin injections. She was told she could not return to Andara because of this and was sent directly to a group home. She couldn’t even say goodbye to her many friends at Andara. She’s very unhappy and hurt, never healthy for an elderly loved one!

My husband and I recently toured the Andara community. The receptionist was warm and friendly. In the lobby we were able to see photo bio’s of the community management team. It’s always helpful to recognize the leadership ‘in action’ in the facility and understand their roles. There are so many pluses to the community it’s hard to know where to start so I’ll go with my personal favorites…the individual apartments are absolutely darling! I found them to be very brightly lit and roomy for one person. The fitness areas were very well maintained, nothing appeared dated or in disrepair. The common areas: theater, dining areas, library and card rooms were largely in use and the residents were engaging one another and us as we toured. At the time of the tour we were told there are still some remodeling in process. Overall, this is a community I’d highly recommend.

My mother moved into their memory care in early February. The staff has yet to get her medications correct, it has been almost 3 months. We are currently paying about $2000 for extra care the "hygiene package" and med administration and there is little to no documentation of what they are providing. We asked for her blood sugar numbers prior to a doctors appt, as she is diabetic, and we got a scrap piece of paper with the last 5 readings. There are definitely communication issues, we have tried repeatedly to set up a meeting with the staff nurse, Jessica, to discuss concerns with her care, no response. My mother was ill this past week and when my sister went to check on her there was dried vomit on her comforter, we have supplied plenty of sheets and blankets to allow for changes with bedding. Lastly, there was recently another resident that is allowed to wander at night. The resident came into my mother's room and used the bathroom! No staff intervention, my mother was told to lock her door. This is memory care that is supposed to have 24 hour care!! I would not recommend this facility. What you are promised is not what you will get.
