If you're at the point where you're reading reviews of memory care housing, you're already in a really difficult situation and going through one of life's most unpleasant roller coasters. My sister and I needed to find a place for our stepmother, and while we hadn't dealt directly with memory care before, we had been exposed to it through other relatives and friends of the family. Based on the expectations of those experiences, Windchime was an incredible find. What we found were caring and engaged staff that were kind and friendly towards everyone. A decently maintained facility situated in a beautiful area with a gorgeous view of Mt Tam. Wonderful varieties of food that got our stepmother to finally eat again. Most importantly, we became aware we were working with a team & facility that aren't part of a horrible extractive corporate chain. We've seen that elsewhere and heard the stories, and it's clear that the staff here care about their work & are committed to it more than a corporate bottom line. Everyone has been so kind and so helpful in making sure our family member is safe and to help us navigate this new reality. The kindness and compassion here is something we just haven't seen at this level anywhere else.

Choosing a care home for your family member is a daunting task- lots of choices, promises and features that your loved one may or may not ever take advantage of.. not to mention the sticker shock of dementia care. What I learned in this process is that it is really about the people. A caring staff keeps a clean and safe facility. A well-supported staff has what they need to succeed in providing care and compassion. The Windchime staff not only did wonderful job of caring for my mother but also provided me with gracious understanding and support as we navigating her present and her passing. I never felt alone in the challenges that memory care creates on a daily basis. I found everyone responsive and willing to make things better. This was true of the day staff and the night staff as I visited at various times and days of the week. Windchime may not be the fanciest place you visit but it is the richest in what matters the most- a place where each resident is respected for who they are now, regardless of who they were before the heartbreak of memory loss.

When you're at the stage of looking at memory care for your loved one, you already know how important it is to not only find a safe and healthy place to go, but you want to ensure the highest quality of life possible. That's WindChime. My beloved mother fiercely guarded her independence. The pandemic took a toll on her dementia and mental health just as it affected everyone else. She refused to even talk about memory care. Her catastrophic event came in the form of an 11-day 5150 hold at Marin General. WindChime stepped in and helped transition her from the hospital to their facility. Miracle of miracles, within 2 weeks, she adjusted and is living a fulfilling life. I honestly believed I would get a call to remove her because she was hurting herself/others. It's been less than 2 months and she is happier than we have seen her in years. She had a check-up with her PCP where it was declared she is the healthiest she has been in years! If you have any doubt at all, come for a visit and see for yourself. Everyone is so nice, so open, so caring, so generous. Go and take a visit. You won't be sorry.
