University Pines – Sky Active Living

We toured more than 2 dozen facilities in the Santa Rosa and Escambia counties to find just the right place for our family member. This place is absolutely wonderful with activities every single day! It is independent living and not assisted, so they do not have a nurse on site. However, many residents utilize home nurse services for minor routine monitoring and assistance. The owners show genuine concern in the safety of their residents, their comfort and happiness and reinvest in keeping the entire facility clean and fresh. They just completely remodeled the interior, replacing all common area carpets, paint, light fixtures and all furniture! What was replaced didn't look so bad, but they wanted to modernize the look. They even replaced large systems like HVAC and roof. The staff are friendly and helpful. Not many quick turnover with many staff members having worked their for over a decade or more. The environment is healthy for the residents. Many still have cars, but for those who no longer drive, they have a sign up shuttle who takes them to appointments, outings, and scheduled events. New security system supports resident safety with sign in and out of ALL non resident visitors and vendors. The system is top notch with facial recognition after initial sign in. No hindrance in keeping track of who are on site. The pricing is very competitive and we consider it more than fair. Our family member has been there since Aug of 2024. She feels at home there. Her one bedroom apartment is 960 sq ft! All services are included in the price except for personal toiletries or care products. No more home owner headaches, cooking, cleaning or repairs. Just active living doing what you can when you can and however way you want yo do it. We highly commend the staff and recommend the facility for any senior who wants to continue active living with safety and services included. Photos were taken during move in Fall of 2024, but should give you an idea. No common area photos are included, because everything looks more wonderful since the remodel and I didn't have any that did it justice.

Very expensive to live at. They are a pure rip off. This is an overpriced senior living facility that makes 3 meals a day. Food is okay but portions are small. Can't ask for seconds. For a one bedroom it's close to $3000.00 a month. How can a senior live like this? Shame on them.

Visited on 1/14/25. Looking for a place for my 75 year old family member. The entry into the facility is open, airy & full of natural light. The already clean center is in the process of being redecorated and I know it’s going to turn out gorgeous. So there was a lot of activity going on … bocce ball in the atrium, painting, setting up for lunch. The gregarious General manager, Freddy O gave my daughter & I an extensive walking tour and showed us both a studio & 1 BR apartment. (He greeted every resident by first name!! 🥰 )We were pleasantly surprised at the spaciousness in all the rooms. Freddy was very thorough in discussing amenities, all the activities included plus pricing. We enjoyed lunch as well in the central dining room which was full of cheerful smiling residents. The servers were friendly/attentive and the food was excellent. I had a fresh garden salad, pasta carbonara, asparagus and spice cake. Kudos to the chef, Vinny. We sat with 2 lovely ladies who shared their experiences with us. We sang happy birthday to a resident who chimed in that the Pines is a great place to live! We left feeling hopeful that our family member would be happy here. Thanks to everyone who helped us get to this point.
