Our sweet Mother was a resident at Tiger Place for the last 3-1/2 years until her recent passing. We could not have asked for better loving care and friendship than she experienced there. The staff became family…everyone from nursing staff to kitchen and housekeeping staff always treated her with love and kindness. Tiger Place will always be our family’s recommendation for anyone looking for a residential facility.

UPDATE Jan. 2024: Tigerplace continued to raise the rent with no action at all by Americare or the TP administration to address proposals made by the residents through the time my Dad died there in 2022. The resident council is essentially a body of no power, and we began to see that our efforts to address the rapidly-rising rents only upset the residents. If we could have moved my Dad, we would have but this was my Dad's HOME of many years and where his friends were, including many members of the staff. He was too elderly and frail to uproot and start over. Americare knows this so that thus the residents are stuck with rents increasing and no voice in it at all, unless they move shortly after arriving there. BTW, I don't know who that person was who responded to my original review because I never heard a thing from them, and had no way to contact them. Last but not least, the concept of aging in place does not work from what I saw unless you are wealthy enough to hire 24 hour care for your parent when/if their health demands it. UPDATE Feb. 11, 2019: As of 1/1/19, the rent at Tiger Place has gone up more than twice the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and almost 3 times the Consumer Product Index for the Midwest since it opened in 2004!! There was no response by Americare to proposals and letters regarding the rapid rent rise from the residents in 2017. They still raised the rent by 3% in 2018 and now 4% in 2019! The staff is still great, although there has been a LOT of turnover, so one wonders about the pay rate. It is still a nice place to live, but this rapid rent rise may be unsustainable for some residents, and one wonders why they keep doing this with quite a few empty apartments. (Facts: As of 1/1/19, the rent has risen 84.8% since it opened in 2004. During this same period the Social Security COLA has gone up only 36.72% and the Consumer Product Index for the Midwest has only gone up 31.71%. ) My 2017 statements still ring true: The elders who live at Tiger Place in most cases have no choice but to stay as the rent has been raised astronomically. In most cases, they have sold their homes, have found friends and community there, and are not able due to ill health to move. At its best, Americare has taken advantage of elders at an extremely vulnerable point in their lives. At its worst, Americare is guilty of elder abuse. They clearly don't care. Please note that the average (Feb. 2019) of 3.9 stars out of 5 is inaccurate since there is one 5-star review that has nothing to do with TP and one 4-star review that is clearly meant for a daycare. P.S. I have no idea who the Americare marketing person who responded to this review in 2017. They were not Tiger Place staff people, and although they said they "looked forward to speaking with me" they never contacted me. From 2017: The Tiger Place staff deserves 5 stars! The facility is very nice. A real sense of community exists there. The parent company Americare however deserves NO stars and here is why: Since Tiger Place opened in 2004 the rent has been raised by a cumulative 72.5%!!! During this same period the Consumer Price Index for Midwest Urban cities the size of Columbia has risen only 28% and the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment has risen by only 30%. Instead of an approximate 30% increase for the years 2004-17 consistent with both the Consumer Price Index and the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment, Americare has more than doubled that percentage increase to over 72%. By 2017, this represents a Cumulative Increase more than 140% higher than the Nominal Increase justified by the Consumer Price Index or the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment. Meanwhile, Tiger Place has the additional free advertising of the grants written with the University of Missouri nursing school. What has Americare done with these obscene profits? I sincerely doubt that staff pay has gone up during this period by 72.5%! I know of excellent wait staff who left due to low pay.
