The Willows at East Lansing

During my Mother’s 60 plus days as a resident at the Willows at East Lansing in the Sub-Acute Rehab, my Mother and I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many of the “amazing” Staff members. The Staff members are professional, knowledgeable, kind and caring. Everyone greets us with a warm smile, and is readily available to answer questions, providing us with much needed support and guidance. They have embraced my Mother; monitoring her health needs and challenges, along with her daily care. I have found the Willows at East Lansing to be a true community, with the Staff members, residents and family members working together for the betterment of all. My heartfelt “Thank You” goes out to all of the Staff members of the Willows at East Lansing.

If you are sending your loved ones to The Willows, save yourself the time—start planning their funeral. The Willows is undermanned, ill-equipped, and overwhelmed. My father stayed at The Willows during July following a routine surgery. The stay started with a promise and ended with an ambulance ride. The callous neglect of my father resulted in his admittance to the ICU due to acute kidney failure. The Willows staff's inattentiveness turned a routine recovery into a crisis. My Dad’s wound from his leg surgery got infected and we suspect this infection was due to the lack of care he received at The Willows. In addition, they did not change his bedding for multiple days. My father laid in the same blood stained sheets for four days. He was bathed or cleaned. This inattentiveness soon turned a routine recovery into a full blown crisis. My father soon experienced GI issues, stopped hydrating, and vomited for days. The Willows did not take note of nor intervene while my father’s health declined. Finally, when my sister visited, my father had turned gray, his hands clenched, and his speech slurred. My sister, not the Willows staff, called the ambulance. While this emergency unfolded, other patients shouted for help in desperation. My sister and father had to FaceTime with a physician at The Willows before the ambulance could depart. This farce robbed my father of valuable time as his kidneys failed and he marched toward death's door. Procedure took precedent over care. The unprofessional neglect at The Willows is at best dangerous and at worst criminal. I see the Willows staff is rebutting reviews on this and other forums. Too bad for their patients and families, they devote more time and attentions to online forums than to the care of their patients. One out of five stars.

I want to personally mention a gentleman named Jupiter, who takes care of the residences at the Willows At Okemos. He not only does his job, but he knows how to work and Talk and and handle all the patients there. He is a an amazing man. He goes above and beyond to help and be a kind man to all the elderly people that are staying there that are all sick, hurt or alone. I dare anybody to do this job it’s a thankless one, but boy am I thankful for these people. ❤️ there are others there too that were fabulous. I just can’t remember everybody’s names.

This place is not ready for hip surgery people, patients coming in pain pain controlled, BUT not being kept control until patients are terrible pain figuring out what helps to relieve there pain. On weekends and nights pain meds are give out 45 minutes to 2 hours late . Nurse changes shifts or claim they're not being told that the patients requested was not related back to nurse. All the time the light has been on , but nurses not checking in on patients, THEREFORE THE ONLY WAY TO GET HELP IS BY HALLER FOR HELP , or banging on walls to get attention. Short staffed or lack of personal should not fall on patients care . I even have nursing staff telling me that the doctors must write scripts stating every four hours wake for meds , otherwise patients pain levels sky rocket, because scripts are wrote wrong . Meanwhile nothing gets done but the patients just stay in PAIN !!!!
