The Summit is a truly special place! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by friendly, helpful staff who go above and beyond to communicate clearly and consistently with families and visitors. The residents are full of energy and joy — it’s clear they genuinely enjoy living there. Whether it’s in Assisted Living, Independent Living, or the Memory Care unit, you can feel the sense of community throughout. As part of Nurturing Angels, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting and participating in many events at The Summit, and every experience has been warm, well-organized, and full of heart. It’s always a joy to see the residents actively engaging and having fun. The Summit is more than just a facility — it’s a vibrant, caring home.

In 2023 we began having a conversation with our Dad about what it would look like to leave Connecticut in order to live closer to family. I live just outside Denver and my sister resides in Newark, Delaware. While the mountains of Colorado were enticing, staying on the east coast with a larger majority of his family nearby won out. So in July 2024 we helped Dad pack his life in Connecticut and moved him into The Summit in Hockessin, DE. Choosing the Summit was a process for sure. Our family is known for doing it's research and asking an excessive amount of questions. When it came to making a final choice though, The Summit was hands down the winner! And we have never looked back. The location and accessibility to local retail is great. From the exterior the property is beautiful. Once inside the building you feel more like you're in a high end hotel than an independent living facility. The amenities are incredible! Dad's favorites being the movie theater, the game room and the pub. Dad's one-bedroom apartment is spacious and light filled, with a balcony overlooking the retaining pond. But the BEST part about The Summit are the people! ALL of the people! Those that work for the Summit - in the background and in the forefront, are friendly and provide a level of service that makes you feel like they truly care about you. And the residents are engaging, humorous, supportive and filled with love! Dad's an introvert - but he made so many new friends and got involved in numerous activities, some of which we expected (cards + games) and some of which shocked us (performing in the annual skit). Dad quickly fell in love with his new life in Hockessin at The Summit! Honestly I don't have a single negative thing to say about our entire experience with The Summit. My only regret....is that we didn't get Dad to relocate a few years earlier! The Summit staff and residents have truly become an extension of our family and we're forever grateful!

If you're reading this its probably too late, but if you or your loved one needs such a place, get out of the country. If that's not possible, at least avoid this place. I regret keeping my loved one there even as long as I did because I thought they would all be equally bad. Once we finally did leave, it was like a breath of fresh air. And the other place accepted mediciad also, so don't think private pay only means better care. Not only was appropriate care actually provided elsewhere, but staff communicated as compassionate humans rather than scared worker drones who are brow beaten by legal advisors giving them scripts when they can't avoid keeping their mouths shut. No one in management cares, and staff act terrified to communicate. And the staff that did care, leave, where their talents and skills can actually be put to good use. Oh, and their employees write "reviews" on google without disclosing their relationship as employees. I'm looking at you Matthew Biferato and your review here. Stay classy.

I’m very satisfied with the facilities and the management and the employees. Overall, the dining room servers are fantastic. They do a great job. The facilities are excellent and well Maintained. They offer outside activities, which you can join in or not some are free and some are optional pay I used to attend almost all of the outside activities the various theaters and plays but now that I’m in a handicap mode I do very little outside activities anymore.
