I moved my very elderly (late 90s) mother from Brookdale to The Peaks in fall of 2023 because there were so many problems with getting the staff at Brookdale to implement my mother's (very minimal) care plan. I read the great reviews of The Peaks and when I toured the facility I was impressed. It's gorgeous. Do not let the beautiful facility fool you. In the six months since my mother has been at The Peaks they have failed repeatedly to do simple, but absolutely necessary, things such as helping her with compression socks that are ordered by her primary care provider and written in her care plan. Even though we are paying for medication management and supervision, they have left medication in her room for her to take "on her own" (which she didn't). According to their own policy, they are to notify me two weeks prior to her medication running out so I can order it from CostPlus Online Pharmacy so her medications are delivered on time. Instead, I was notified today that she only has three days medication left. When I asked what went wrong I was told by their head of nursing "we're only human" (the same thing I was told when they left the medication in her room ), that she didn't know what went wrong with notifying me, and that she doesn't speak in terms of never and always so she cannot tell me this mistake won't happen again. She did promise to meet with staff and make it "Barney simple" - whatever that means. Also, if you're considering having your elder loved one live here, or if they already are, please check how much Saliba's pharmacy is charging. I was told when my mother moved in that I had to use Saliba's (that is not true) and when I found out that medications I can order online for $15.00 for a 90-day supply were costing my mother over $180/mo I just about flipped. Nothing like price-gouging our elders on their necessary meds. The nurse today told me that of the over 120 residents at The Peaks less than 5 use online pharmacies and the rest use Saliba's. I know it's hard, but please do your due diligence and price compare for medications. Saliba's is NOT your best option. I know there are limited choices for elder care in Flagstaff, but please don't let the glitz of The Peaks fool you into thinking you or your loved one is going to get consistently great care. That has not been my experience at all.

I have had a good experience in the past, now, not good at all with communications since Nelson is no longer there. My mom is in hospice and I call all the time to check her status. No one answers the phone in the nurses station. Now I ask if she is on the roster for the day with the operator because I do not know if she is alive or passed away. It is very upsetting. One of the days I called over 10x just to find anyone. Finally, just asked the operator. The operator was very nice, but only knew if she was on the daily list. I don't know what else to do. I have left messages with the director many times. Relieved one message and then calling with no one available. It is already very upsetting. I just keep trying for 4 weeks now, off and on I call when I can to see if I can reach a nurse, been going through this communication issue without a good result. I don't know how my mom is and that is the worst part. This is my mom. My sibling and I do not talk since February, so I can only find out through the Peaks nurses. Now I see others are upset on the Google ratings. I appreciate the thankless job of the staff, but they need a better process to speak to anyone in the nursing stations. A way I can get an update or speak to a live care specialist. Nelson was always the one I could reach, but now he is no longer there. The phone just rings..... for the nurses.... for the director.... At least Nelson answered, he was a very kind soul taking care of our loved ones. It is very upsetting, I already gave the staff my info to please update me when my mom was to pass. I told them I would call and get updates, they said that was fine, but I can never reach anyone. They need more staff maybe. I don't live in the same state or I would drive over. Sad. Very sad.😪

If I could, I would give this place zero stars!! Do not bring your loved ones here. My grandpa has been here for a little over a week and we have visited every single day asking multiple staff members, nursing and front desk, for an update on his medical health. None were able to give us any valuable information. They continuously stated they didn't know which was an issue in its own! One nurse finally gave us a little information and said their front desk/social workers do not collaborate with the nurses or transport with appointments and other information, because of this, he missed an important appointment. The nurse said WE are the ones who are supposed to do collaborate with everyone but how can we when no one could tell us any information?! My family and I would sit with him every day and when the nurses came in none of them would ask how he is doing or how he's feeling. Just come right in do what they need to do with a sour attitude and leave. The only nurse I had a good experience with was Robin but she was only his nurse for one night. Isn't that what they are supposed to be there for? Is to help the elderly and other's who can't help themselves. Such a sad environment with no compassion! I'm very disappointed with this establishment.

Sometimes people give bad reviews for a place like this when they had a bad experience. Sometimes the people who had good experiences don't take the time to write. My father was here at the Peaks for a few months before he passed. They treated him like he was all their fathers. When he got sick, the whole staff cried. I personally have lived in independent living myself thinking it would be like the Peaks while living in Albuquerque, and I was terribly mistaken. The Peaks is amazing. You know, sometimes, you don't know what you got until it is gone. This is a fantastic place. Trust me, I tried 3 places myself and perhaps I may come to the Peaks and move back to Flag. I would give you 10+ stars if I could. It was so wonderful to see how much you cared for my father, Frank Anthony Sibbio♥
