My mom had a stroke a month ago. She is in the skilled nursing in Byron Center. Our first weeks with her there were not good, the nursing staff is great but there seemed to be a disconnect somewhere, she had a uti when she went to hospital. When she returned to oaks it took us a week to get her retested for the uti and 3 days for medication to arrive. My big complaint is in the amount of aids on staff, at the price of 15,900 a month which is significantly higher than other places, now, granted it’s a nice place but… Also, my dad is there in independent living so we cannot move her to someplace cheaper. We are willing to pay this but we expect better care! More days than not there is only 1 aid in the hallway, so mom waits 1/2 hour for someone to come help her, try waiting this long when you need the bathroom. I’m not saying the aids aren’t doing the job there just aren’t enough of them. They drop off her food and no one comes to assist her, she isn't able to help herself because she is paralyzed on her left side, and most of the time laying in bed. so we end up helping her when we’re there and if we’re not she doesn’t eat and then they pick up her tray, with her not having eaten.

Our experience at the Oaks has been and continues to be positive. My mother in assisted living gets attentive care from staff who are competent and have cheerful attitudes. The staff sees that my mother is aware of and participates in the daily programming. Program activities are inclusive and creative. We are very satisfied with the care at The Oaks.

The Oaks at Byron Center is a wonderful place. They have a lot of activities to keep all the residence happy and entertained. They are very tentative to the residents and family members. They really do care and love the residents and their families. I would have no problem bring all my family members to this location if they ever needed skilled nursing facilities needs and amenities. This place is wonderful.
