This establishment is extravagant! Most of the fellow residents that I used to care for moved here from other facilities. The families prefer The Landing over the other homes. Not only is the atmosphere great, but everyone feels greatly at home. Even though most of my prior residents either moved or passed on, I’m glad they enjoyed their last moments here with such a loving staff and accommodating management.

The “corporate” administration (executive director) are running this facility only to make money, in the most greedy manner. The “emergency system” runs on the internet, which is not backed up by any boosters or extra routers, and my mom fell waiting over 45 minutes for someone to answer her pendent, which stops if the internet signal isn’t working. I had to call IDPH a few times for safety purposes. The front doors didn’t lock at night and the first floor was desolate without any security watching for strangers coming in, or residents. Walking out. The “heart-healthy” menu promised during the marketing process, had hotdogs, ham and cheese sandwiches, hamburgers and fries and BLT sandwiches, and a gluten/free pasta with no protein. The chicken ceaser salad, was soggy and the dressing was nothing close to a salad. They market to the sons and daughters, promising to make our lives less overwhelming, but that never happened. My mom was unsafe at The Landing. When I tried to communicate my fears, suggestions, and concerns, I was told I was “interfering with the operation of their business.” Corporate greed, money, and power are the primary goals of The Landing. The director of nursing, Susie, was a great person who genuinely cared, along with some of the other nurses and caregivers. However, they were not given the freedom to care for the residents in a responsible and respectful manner due to the rules and regulations set by the corporate office. Residents are afraid to speak up, which is a shame. The staff will not listen to family concerns because “complaints need to come from the residents,” which is part of the problem. This policy allows them to profit off the vulnerability of the memory care, disabled, and older population. If I had to do it again, I would have found a way to keep my mom safe in a private residence with myself and a caregiver. When my mom was suddenly diagnosed with terminal cancer, not one staff member or anyone from the executive team/corporate management called me or my mom in the hospital to acknowledge the diagnosis. She passed away one month later, and the cold, indifferent way they ignored both her and me during her final days—especially after she thought she had made friends with the staff—broke her heart.

The landing is the worse place you can place a parent. The current management do not know what they are doing. There have been many complaints of the food and the cleanliness of the facility. They make their employees do more than two jobs. People quit left and right because of the management. Residents have also left. They let the families run the facility. They have patients that inappropriately placed they should be in a skilled nursing facility. I don’t think they to a proper evaluation on their new residents. They can never keeps her on staff.
