The Gables was recommended to me by a friend who had recently placed her mom in the Memory Care unit and has been very pleased. I did a tour with Ellis, who was great. He walked me through the facility, answered all my questions and frankly was just a nice person to talk with - not super salesy or high pressure which is a big turnoff to me. The facility is lovely - bright, cheery, and tons of staff everywhere - which you don't always see in other facilities due to turnover. There's a good energy there that was appealing. Unfortunately, circumstances with my mom kept me from moving her to The Gables, but my overall impression was great.

I tried twice this year to get my mother assessed for placement in Gables memory care program. Initial contact was professional and encouraging, however, follow up information or decisions was incredibly hard to get. Ellis McDonald ended up brushing me off with a vague voicemail stating that the "regionals" said they were unable to place her - no reason why, no follow-up phone call, just nothing. When I first contacted him a couple weeks ago and told him how I had been treated by Nick, the person that was in his position in January, Mr. McDonald apologized how my case was handled, but then ended up treating me the same way!! Communication is a huge problem with this facility. I would think twice before entering into an agreement with them.

I recently had the pleasure of touring this community and was truly impressed. It’s clean, warm, and inviting—with a classic feel complemented by thoughtful, modern touches. The care team is attentive and genuinely kind-hearted, and the overall atmosphere feels like home. I also had the chance to sample the food, which was excellent! Ellis gave us a wonderful tour—informative, welcoming, and thorough. It was clear how much pride he takes in the community and the care they provide. From the moment we contacted The Gables, Ellis McDonald, the Sales Director, showed exceptional dedication and compassion. Ellis went above and beyond to understand my father's specific needs and concerns after his extended hospitalization. He patiently answered our endless questions about care levels, amenities, and the transition process. What truly sets Ellis apart is his genuine interest in the residents. He took time to learn about my father's military service, his hobbies, and his medical requirements. Ellis then created a personalized transition plan that made my father's move from the hospital to The Gables seamless and stress-free. The community itself is stunning - bright, open spaces with beautiful common areas as shown on their website. The proximity to Mayo Clinic (just half a mile away) gives our family tremendous peace of mind. The staff-to-resident ratio is excellent, and everyone from the caregivers to the dining team has been attentive and professional. My father has only been at The Gables for a short time, but I've already noticed significant improvements in his mood and overall wellbeing. The restaurant-style dining, full-service amenities, and calendar of activities have helped him regain a sense of independence and community. The food here is absolutely amazing and my father raves about it daily. She regularly checks in with my father and remembers small details about his preferences and routine. Joyce's open-door policy and hands-on management style ensure that residents and families always feel heard and valued. Equally impressive is Courtney Robertson, the medical director. Her expertise in geriatric care is evident in every interaction. Courtney took extensive time reviewing my father's medical history from the VA hospital and developed a comprehensive care plan tailored to his specific health challenges. She coordinated with the hospital staff, arranged transportation, and ensured my father's room was perfectly set up before arrival. She coordinates seamlessly with his doctors at Mayo Clinic and provides our family with clear, thoughtful updates. What stands out most about Courtney is her genuine empathy - she treats each resident not just as a patient but as a person with unique needs and wishes. With Ellis handling the transition, Joyce overseeing daily operations, and Courtney managing healthcare needs, my father couldn't be in better hands. Other awesome people at The Gables that are super important to mention are Vicky and Wendy who always go above and beyond to make all the residents happy! They are superb!!! Thank you to this exceptional leadership team and the entire staff at The Gables of Jacksonville for providing my father with such outstanding care and support.
