If I could leave negative stars I would I would not recommend The Carlotta based on our experience. At first, everyone seemed incredibly kind, welcoming, and supportive. Unfortunately, that changed very quickly. Within the first week, we felt the attitude shifted from being helpful to looking for reasons to claim that additional levels of care were needed. In our experience, these recommendations were not supported by clear evidence or thorough assessments, and it felt as though the focus became increasing the level of care and the associated costs rather than working collaboratively with the resident and family. We also felt our loved one's privacy was not respected. Staff frequently entered the apartment, sometimes with multiple people at once, which felt intrusive and intimidating. Rather than discussing concerns respectfully, we felt pressured and bullied into accepting conclusions that were not adequately explained or supported. One of the most disappointing parts of our experience was our interaction with the Executive Director, Patrick. We felt that decisions and statements were made that negatively affected our loved one, yet when concerns were raised in person, we felt our concerns were minimized. His demeanor came across as condescending rather than compassionate, leaving us feeling dismissed instead of heard. We also became very concerned about the accuracy of information we were being given. We were repeatedly told that certain symptoms or incidents had occurred, but when we requested supporting documentation to verify those claims, we never received clear answers. When we provided information or evidence that contradicted what we had been told, communication often stopped, and our emails frequently went unanswered instead of being addressed. Communication was one of the biggest problems throughout our experience. Emails and phone calls often went unanswered, even when urgent medical issues were involved. We were left trying to coordinate medication schedules and care plans ourselves—responsibilities that we believed should have been handled by the facility. Families should not have to chase staff for answers during stressful situations. We also experienced inconsistent information from different staff members. Different employees gave conflicting explanations about procedures and events, making it difficult to know what was actually happening. We felt there was a lack of coordination, transparency, and accountability. In my opinion, the leadership team demonstrated a lack of honesty, transparency, and accountability throughout our experience. We felt our concerns were repeatedly dismissed, important questions went unanswered, and decisions affecting our loved one were made without adequate explanation or supporting documentation. Rather than working collaboratively with our family, we felt misled and treated unfairly. For the amount charged to residents, we expected professionalism, compassion, respect, transparency, and organized care. Instead, we left feeling disappointed, unheard, and overwhelmed. Families should not have to fight for communication, accountability, and respect while advocating for their loved one. Based on our experience, I would not recommend The Carlotta to anyone considering assisted living for a loved one.

My recent tour was a pleasant experience. Mia was through with information and she was able answer all of my questions. The Independent Living section fits all of my needs in the future. The Casidos and apartments are spacious and bright(light in my home is very important). I like the idea of having a washer and dryer in the units. The grounds an open space around the units really give the feel of home. I enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal in the bright cheery dining hall. I enjoyed meeting several residents and I felt so welcomed. Mia is a lovely tour guide. I never felt rushed or pressured. Thank you all for making my birthday special. JoAnn Gagnet

My family and I visited The Carlotta two days before Christmas and were served a delicious breakfast and given a very informative tour. We were able to go back the next day for a second tour and learn more details about three apartments which really interested us. Since I was flying back home on the day after Christmas, they were willing to work with my son so that I could rent the casita I wanted. All this was done very quickly. The Carlotta offers the physical and mental activities seniors want, the entertainment that we want and the socializing that we want. I currently live in a similar facility in Florida and feel I will be just as happy when I move to California.
