After our previous stop, Terra Bella restored our faith entirely. Our family came together to tour assisted living facilities for our elderly parents — a significant and emotional decision that we wanted to get right. After a deeply frustrating experience at another facility that morning, we arrived at Terra Bella not quite sure what to expect. Jackie met us and immediately set the tone. She was warm, professional, prepared, and genuinely engaged with every member of our group. She answered every question thoroughly, walked us through the facility with pride, and never made us feel rushed or like a sales transaction. The facility itself is beautiful — warm, cozy, and thoughtfully designed in a way that actually feels like a home rather than an institution. But what struck us most was the culture Jackie and her team have clearly worked to create. You can feel it the moment you walk in. The residents looked happy. The staff looked happy. That is not an accident — that is intentional leadership. When you are making a decision about placing someone you love in the care of others, you are watching everything. Every interaction, every detail, every face you pass in the hallway. Terra Bella passed every test. Jackie — thank you for showing us how it should be done. When we are ready to move forward, there is no question where we will be going. We cannot recommend this place highly enough.

My Mother lived on the assisted care side of this facility for a little over two years. She had several falls at night getting up and going to the restroom. The last fall left her with a broken wrist and a fractured L2. The ER discharged her back to Terra Bella. We arrived back there around 7am. I sat with her all day. Not once did the nurse come to check on her during the entire day. When I went to ask about her discharge papers she was sitting in the floor of her office surrounded by patient folders. She could not find my Mother's papers. Not only that but she hadn't even looked to see that she was prescribed pain medication for her injuries. They had also implemented a new program where a member of the staff was assigned to each resident as their liaison. The director had told me a few days earlier that she was my Mother's liaison. Oddly enough, she never darkened the door either. We moved her to a rehab facility to recover. When she was discharged we explored other facilities. This one by far was the nicest looking of all the places we toured. We moved her back in to the memory care unit which states the patients get more skilled care. Here is what happened in the 10 days we were there. The girls that came to assess her at rehab told me they would contact hospice. They did not follow through. I had to call. She laid there in pain for days and I didn't realize it. The highest ranking person on the floor is a med tech. I never once saw the previously mentioned nurse. Not once on that side of the facility. While sitting with my Mom in the tv area I observed a male employee approach two ladies in wheelchairs and put his hand in their crotch (outside of the pants)to see if they needed to have their Depends changed. The movies they played for the residents were war movies with lots of gunfire, explosions and yelling. The residents on this side are 95% female. The male attendants seemed to enjoy them though. I asked one employee if they had transferred her meds because she was so anxious about the move. She told me no, but if I had any on me I could give her one of mine. Two of the male residents pace the floor all day and go into every room. When we said something to the staff, we walked in to find her in her room with the door locked to keep the men out. The thermostat was set to 80 degrees. It was 89 degrees outside on that April day. Food was left on her nightstand for 3 hours after the mealtime. This included meat and cole slaw. They left a PB&J on her nightstand on another day. There were ants crawling on it. One of the female employees pulled my mom up from her chair by her arms, one of which was in a cast. She winced in pain. All of this for a mere $8800 per month for a SHARED room! I will be reporting this to the state of North Carolina. Shame on you, Terra Bella. What a game of smoke and mirrors. By the way, they are on their 4th director in 2 years.

We chose this facility for my grandmother because of the activities offered and the courtyard bc she was always outside and active. The activities are never held and apparently haven’t been held for years due to low staff. Residents don’t have access to the courtyard because of low staff. They lost her hearing aids. They are almost impossible to contact after hours. The staff are not skilled. Smells of urine always. I worked as a CNA and am a nurse now and they should be ashamed of taking advantage of people. This should not qualify as a memory care facility. They are twice the cost of every other place. My family was in tears over what we had done to our loved one by trusting this facility. Do not put your loved ones here. We are so grateful she got in somewhere else and happy again.

I enjoyed getting to know the staff and Executive Director Teresa Suttles when we toured the property a few months ago. Everyone that we encountered was so warm and friendly. What a great community. We felt good about the decision of choosing Terra Bella. We highly recommend this location when looking for the best fit for your loved ones.
