I love it here at Summit Woods. I visited here 20 some years ago and knew that I would be living here one day. I`ve been here 4 years now. I have so many new friends and activities every day. I couldn`t be happier. I choose what I want to do each day. I can be as busy or as quiet as I need. Thank you to the great staff here.

First, I want to say I agree with the posting by Lily H. While I have not seen exactly what she described I have seen enough to believe what she is saying is true. Summit Woods is an older building, and the upkeep is not great. When visiting my family member in warmer weather I noticed the garbage can in front of the building was crawling with maggots. It looked like the trash had not been emptied for some time. The dining room is often dirty as the floors are not cleaned regularly. Parts of the room that are not used and often have cobwebs. I also agree that one particular kitchen staff member is on her phone constantly using an earpiece while serving people. That should never be allowed! The care staff are aloof. They will ask how a person is doing but not much else. My family member was supposed to receive a shower and help with ADLS, but we often had to help as he would need to be shaved, need a change of clothes or have an odor. I did see the Director scolding a resident in public with staff and other residents around. I was embarrassed for the resident who was scolded. She lives independently. Activities are geared towards a small group of people who regularly attend events. If a person is in Assisted Living, they are not given reminders or made to feel welcome to events. They are given a monthly schedule and that is their notice. They used to have a weekly music group which was the only activity my family member attended and he really liked it. It stopped suddenly with no explanation. He told me not to complain because he is afraid it will come back to him by the Director, but I am doing it anyway. The problems start at the top. Issues are tolerated by the leadership and despite complaints nothing has changed. I can no longer recommend this facility, mainly because of the staff with the one exception - Jennifer in the office. She remains cheerful and helpful.

When I retired (in 2004) I couldn't find my dream retirement community so moved to an ordinary apartment complex. Then I discovered Summit Woods and moved here in 2005. It is still "home". We are like a family. Compared to other comunities I have happened to visit I feel the amenities here are the best value for the price we pay.

Summit Woods is a great place to live. The people in the office are very helpful and nice. Our activity director comes up with great activities for the residents. There are very friendly residents also. I’m very happy that I live here.
