We checked my grandfather into Stone Creek Senior Living three months ago. At least, I think that’s what it’s called. The sign out front changes every time I drive by. Once it said “Toned Greeks.” Another time it just said “LEAVE.” The receptionist always seems surprised when I visit. “Oh… another one came back,” she mutters, before silently leading me through identical beige hallways that seem to rearrange themselves. I swear I passed the same broken wheelchair three times. It blinked at me. No one makes eye contact. The nurses smile too much. Way too much. One of them said, “Your grandfather’s doing great!” but her left eye twitched and her voice dropped an octave on “great.” I asked to see him and they said he was at “Memory Reconditioning Hour.” I asked what that was. They handed me a coloring book and told me to forget I asked. Last week I tried to check him out. They handed me a photo of a different man and said, “This is your grandfather.” It was a 40-year-old man named Carl. I said, “No it’s not.” They said, “He is now.” Also the therapy cat speaks Latin. I’m not even kidding. I’ll give two stars if they can at least tell me what’s in the Jell-O. It glows.

I was told I could return to my previous position, went in, completed all the paperwork, and took a drug test—only to be told it was “misplaced.” I returned for a second test, thinking everything was moving forward, only to be informed days later that the company was now “overstaffed” and no longer hiring. As someone who is pregnant and made time and arrangements to show up not once, but twice, this felt like a complete waste of my time and energy. Whether it was due to poor communication or internal drama, it came off as extremely unprofessional and disorganized. That said, I want to make it clear that Randi was incredibly helpful and kind throughout the process—none of this was her fault. She handled things with professionalism and patience. And to be fair, this was a great place to work in the past, but the drama and pettiness from certain people behind the scenes have clearly gotten worse. It’s a shame to see a good workplace dragged down by unnecessary nonsense.

I visited Stone Creek today with a friend. I can't say enough wonderful things about this facility. The Community Relations Director, Bobby Landry was delightful and knowledgeable about everything the facility had to offer. The place is elegant and beautiful. We were able to have lunch there and it was delicious. Bobby, thanks for for being a wonderful host! This is exactly the kind of place that I want to live in.
