Silverado of Berkeley provides exceptional care for memory care residents, ensuring they receive the specialized attention they need. Every team member is certified in caregiving, demonstrating their dedication to providing expert and compassionate support. What truly sets Silverado apart is their ability to care for residents with behaviors that may be challenging for others to accommodate. The team works closely with each resident and family to help them adapt and thrive in a supportive environment. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing a standout member of the team, Mac McKissack, whose deep connection with residents makes a lasting impact. Having been part of the community for years, Mac knows each resident by name and takes the time to accompany them on walks, engage them in activities, and ensure they feel valued and supported every day.

Silverado was there for our family during a time of uncertainty & distress. It is never an easy decision to put a loved one in a care facility but when it came to the safety & wellbeing of our loved one we knew that we were making the right decision. Since she has been at Silverado we have seen a great improvement in her overall mood & it is amazing to see her being so social again, especially with folks at her level. It is such a relief knowing that her quality of life has improved despite the crippling disease that is Alzheimer’s. Walking into Silverado is like a big warm hug of understanding & care.

This is a remarkable place. It provides residents with dignity, quality of life, and thoughtful care. My mother was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, and then vascular dementia, over the course of the past three years. Initially we got by with some help from personal aides, but it became clear she needed more care and engagement, so my siblings and I looked carefully at nearly a dozen assisted living and memory care places in the East Bay and Marin, and Silverado stood out for the genuine attention to each individual, the range of activities and care levels to meet each person where they are and help them maintain the best quality of life. My mother visited and came away saying "I'm pretty darn sure this is where I want to be" (after having seen other, places that looked like upscale hotels but feel very impersonal). She loved meeting the women in the Red Hat Club, a vibrant group (part of the Nexus program) who were very welcoming. I had spoken to the adult daughters of current residents who spoke highly of their mothers' experiences. We were all set to have her move in - had set up her room and the personalized Memory Box outside, had met many staff members and residents, all of whom were warm and welcoming, and then, just three days before the move, my mother passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep. :-( How I wish we had moved her two years ago when she was earlier in the course of dementia, as I am quite sure that Silverado would have slowed the progression and kept her physically, emotionally and cognitively healthier. In another tribute to Silverado, despite all the time and care and cost they put into having her move in, the staff were sympathetic and caring to us, as if we were a part of the community. We're grateful, and regretful, that we didn't find Silverado sooner.
