As a physician, I was appalled at the treatment my mother received. She waited hours several times for someone to help her to the restroom, fell and hit her head in the middle of the night, was put in the shower with her clothes on, left in the restroom and ended up on the floor, was treated aggressively by staff trying to change her, was told she “stank” and needed a shower, etc. In addition, Deshay Patterson, over infection control, had a nasty, spiteful attitude and intentionally threw out food I had brought for my mother and left in the refrigerator. In my opinion, the facilities that don’t have 24 hour visiting hours treat the patients poorly when no one is around. The nursing director and administrator were wonderful and very helpful. However, it will take more than these two individuals to convert this facility into one that I would recommend. If I knew then, what I know now, I NEVER would have allowed my mother to get care at this facility.

My sister was admitted to this nursing home for rehabilitation, on February 2025 . I visited her every day. On several occasions, I found her in concerning conditions. Some days she was lying in bed feeling very weak. One time I arrived and found her asleep in her wheelchair in the dining room. When I called her name, she did not respond. I immediately asked the nurses at the station to check on her, and when they checked her oxygen, it was dangerously low. Despite this, the staff showed little urgency or concern. On her discharge day, I again found her in bed, unresponsive, with low oxygen levels. Staff suggested keeping her another day, but I decided to take her out myself. No one offered assistance in getting her to my car. After leaving the facility, I took her directly to the hospital, where doctors discovered she had an infection and required treatment. This experience was frightening and unacceptable. Patients deserve attentive care, quick response to medical issues, and proper discharge procedures.

My elderly mother is in poor health and she needed skilled nursing rehab at Parkwood. From the start, Parkwood showed signs of disorganization and carelessness. Her admission was mishandled - evidently the administrator screwed up. Not sure where the breakdown of communication happened behind the scenes but I guess my Mom evidently was going to have to be "private pay" for the night until my Dad said he shouldn't be responsible for the charges as it was their mistake. The administrator agreed and assured my Dad there wouldn't be charges. My Dad came back this morning to work out details of where my Mom could go and was informed that my Mom fell while there - twice. Why no one was helping her get around when she is a known fall risk is beyond me and the definition of negligence. My Dad is now at the ER with my Mom to make sure my Mom is ok. To say I'm disappointed with how my Mom was treated is an understatement. I'm also guessing I'm going to be needing to stay on top Parkwood to in fact ensure there will be no charges.

During my care at Parkwood Healthcare I experienced a kind and caring staff. During my seven month stay they made sure that my room was clean and comfortable, that I had good food that was healthy and even entertainment. If I had one complaint it's that there were a couple of times that my medicine was late but if I had to choose which assisted living place to go to, it would be Parkwood Healthcare. The staff was great.
