We can’t say even good things about Independence Village and it’s staff. From the care coordinator to the head nurse they feel like family. This is a tough transition and to have people in place you can talk to directly is vital. This was a new experience for us and it was so important to have people that we could ask advice from. We are still raising kids at home, so to have my MIL feel so at home was a total blessing. The transistor is hard for all of the family , but Independence Village staff can help you through it all. My MIL is thriving after losing her husband and making this huge life transition. All thanks to IV!!!

My Mom is having a great time at their assisted living, Independence Village, in Ames, Iowa. What a fun place. They have many fun activities, for both men and women, unfortunately my Dad does not choose to participate, but Mom is having a blast!

7/22/25 - Every time that I walk into this community, I am blown away by the staff and the environment that is provided for the residents. One of my favorite things is the activities that are available for the residents. Shout out to the life enrichment team!! They do a wonderful job at posting amazing pictures on the Facebook page and it makes me so happy to see residents having fun. The new ED, Sydney, is adding so much value to the community. Her years of experience and knowledge is shining on everyone! Betsy, the Wellness Director, is an asset. She is a long-time nurse, published author, AND a wonderful person to work with. If you are struggling with the idea of moving you or your loved one into a senior community, I recommend giving Independence Village of Ames a shot! 12/05/2023 - It has now been four months that I have been away from Independence Village. This was my work home for almost three years. Some of the best years of my life. When I returned this past week to visit staff and residents, I was blown away. There was not one resident that I spoke to that wasn’t pleased with living there and they were RAVING about the activities and environment. Community living can bring a lot of challenges, both for staffing and occupancy. During my visit, it was encouraging to see that the community was fully staffed with caregivers and management. When I visited the memory care community, I was entering just as lunch was finishing up. The staff members working had created an amazing environment. All while cleaning the tables and finishing up lunch, they had Christmas music playing and there were residents dancing and singing along! Josie, a caregiver at IV, had created such a fun environment for the folks living there. They got the maracas out and were dancing and singing along to multiple Christmas tunes. It doesn’t surprise me that this is what I experienced during my visit to Independence Village but it’s always refreshing to see how lively an environment can be with the right people leading. Independence Village is always a community that I will recommend to individuals and family members of loved ones who are looking for a caring and fun community.
