Moving my dad here last month was honestly one of the best calls I've made. The staff are kind and they're genuinely attentive — like they actually see him, not just another resident. The building is clean and beautiful too. He's well taken care of and that gives me so much peace of mind. If you're looking for a place for your loved one, this is it. No hesitation.

I have been my grandma's primary caregiver for the past 5 years and as most of you know it's gets very challenging. That's the main reason why these kinds of facilities exist, to help both parties relax during these tough times. I visited Azalea Estates, Somerby, and also The Oaks before coming here. By far Heartis in my opinion is far from these other facilities. I'm not exactly sure why things appear to be so mismanaged here. I did come on a weekend, so that I was able to truly see how things are ran. I learned my lesson on coming to these facilities during the weekdays to avoid coverups. I wanted to do my own tour, and upon doing so I also noticed the lack of security in place. I was able to walk the halls myself, and did not see a single security camera? That spooked me out a bit. Another thing, there were a few unlocked rooms without displayed names, that I did observe. These rooms appear to be empty incomplete rooms? I did ask a staff member about this, who told me that these rooms have been in these states, unfinished for months?? That took me back some, and I question the financial status here too. A big difference from these other facilities would be the lack of joy or morale within the community. One thing that I have learned is that the residents and staff will be more honest regarding these topics, as that is why I come on weekends to tour. Upper Management at facilities care more about finances rather than their own staff and even residents. If a facility truly cares for their staff and residents, you will see that. You may be able to hide behind desks, but the morale always shows this. I also asked questions regarding the type of care provided. I was informed that the assessments made on residents is being completed by incompetent staff. I'm not sure if that is true, but this is the only facility I have seen with wheelchair bound people on upper floors. In Georgia, assisted living communities are required by law to only admit or retain individuals who are ambulatory or, if not fully ambulatory, are capable of assisted self-preservation. You do not see that much here. I was here for a little under an hour, and made these observations. My suggestion to families reading this, would be to pass on to other facilities. Somerby has been the contender for me so far, but still searching. For now, I plan on keeping my grandmother at home. I know it is not easy caring for our loved ones. I am not here to bash Heartis, as there probably are good things about it. But unfortunately, this was my experience.

Heartis is a wonderful place to consider if you are looking for a friendly, clean, professional place for your senior. My Dad has been here for almost two years and it has been a good fit for him. He enjoys the staff and has no complaints. There are certainly challenges, as with any senior living facility, but they address the issues quickly and make sure that it is a safe and comfortable place for their residents.

I could write a book about the excellent care and sincere nurturing that my mother received the 7 years that she lived at Heartis! She was the first woman to move in and the first minority! Names oh my, Carlese, Cathy,Stacie, Annie,Kayla, Audrey,Marc, Susan just to name a few have been extensions of my family… they have loved on my mother like she was a family member! No place is perfect but for the last 7 years Heartis has come pretty close!
