The community, facilities, and staff at GenCare Federal Way are warm and welcoming. That said, families considering a move from independent living to assisted living may wish to plan this transition in advance. In our experience, the Federal Way team appeared under-resourced for this change: the process took more than nine weeks and required coordination with several different contacts. Our parents had already lived at the facility for a year. Also if a resident is hospitalized and returns under assisted living status, we recommend staying closely engaged with the staff, as families should be prepared to manage much of the coordination themselves to return under assisted living.

Valinda Horstman is knowledgeable and skilled and very dependable in her position at GenCare. My 98 yr Dad, blind, came from a home/ wife of neglect when we met Valinda. During our beginning tours/visits I noticed her personalness, and how she treats all staff, residents attentively. On those initial tours and inquiry meetings Valinda thoroughly explained policy, answered our questions on the paperwork and contract. She helped set up a moving company and offered solutions to remove a bedroom door to make his entrance wider, adding LED lighting, another grab bar. These are huge help for my blind father in navigating with his walker--. - my dad is happy, healthier, medically and properly cared for) We express our high regard to her, and we are so satisfied with his care and that we made the move to GenCare.

I was touring for a place in your memory care for my Mom. I received details about your facility from A Place for Mom, Jayson Sargent. I had an option of 5 facilities to visit, and after our tour in your facility, I felt comfortable with your surrounding. The outdoor garden areas are lovely and remind me of my Mom's yard so I thought this would be a nice location for Mom. Your staff is so friendly and listened to our needs and were very knowledgeable in the care of dementia residents. As we walked in, we were greeted with friendly smiles and the PEAK area were involving the residents in a sing along. Your facilities is comfortable and homey for the residents. We were invited to visit or call for updates on Mom and to feel free to come and have lunch with her or sign her out for an outing. I had a good feeling the minute I walked into the facility.

I quite literally cant RAVE about how PHENOMENAL this facility is. When the topic of my father moving into an assisted-living facility came about, I had nothing short of anxiety. From scoping out the facility to getting questions answered, GenCare was absolutely incredible. When we moved into the facility, there were quite a few hiccups on our end via my father’s medical care needs. When I tell you the facility went ABOVE AND BEYOND for our family in order to assist in creating a safe and productive environment for my father’s well-being and quality of life…. it was mind blowing. On movies and TV shows you see nothing but horror stories about facilities for the elderly. I can’t express enough that GenCare completely removed that image from my mind. The staff is incredible but also the people are incredible. I had to be at the facility quite a bit in the beginning and leaving there was a melancholy feeling for sure. My husband and I have been taking care of my father the last year and a half. Gencare has created a situation for us to be able to live independently with our own family while he finds a quality of life post stroke. We truly didn’t think a year ago that it would be possible for him to regain some independence back but Gencare truly helped us get there. I can’t thank them enough!
