Columbia Cottage Hanover

The care giving staff is great, but the administration is not easy to deal with. We moved my dad in and within 2 months his pricing increased by a couple thousand dollars per month. Once it goes up, regardless of the circumstances, it won’t come down. My dad had surgery and needed some extra help for a couple of weeks after getting out of the hospital. They increased his “level of care,” which I understood. But once he got back to normal, they kept trying to justify the higher rate. They have redone their pricing, so maybe there isn’t as much “grey” area now! Ultimately, after living here for almost 2 years my dad passed away. I wasn’t even acknowledged from management! She never offered condolences, thoughts, prayers…nothing! When I inquired about billing, they were not friendly nor did they want to take the time to explain! It was there way or the highway! I will acknowledge one incident that impressed me. My dad’s tv broke and that was his most favorite thing in the world. The administrator did go out after hours and purchased a tv for him so he wouldn’t have to be without. I live 10 hours away and was there about every 6 weeks. My brother that lived close by was out of town. So that was a very kind gesture! That was the only kind and thoughtful moment I experienced with admin!!! The nursing staff was great! Most of them seemed to really care and loved my dad! They were always running around trying to take care of everyone’s needs. When my dad was in his final hours they were so supportive of our family and did everything in their power to keep my dad comfortable. I will feel a forever bond with those girls (they know who they are) and be forever grateful that they were the ones working in those final days!!!! To wrap this up, my brothers and I were comforted by the fact that my dad had someone checking on him regularly! Just be mindful that admin is not warm and fuzzy like they might portray when you first inquire.

Very clean and every one so nice and helpful. Both of my parents were there and had wonderful care. We don’t know of a better place we could have put them!

My father in law is there and all the girls I talk to are so nice , so caring and compassionate about everyone one in there . Always happy to see my husband and myself . The care they provide to my father in law is exceptional . Keep up the great work girls .

Columbia Cottage is truly a wonderful place. This is not your ordinary assisted living. As a resident stated when we first arrived, if you can no longer live in your home, this is still close to it. The staff truly care about the residents. The food is good. There are activities and truly a place that treats residents with care and dignity. Grammy lived there over two years and we still have contact with residents and staff. I hate seeing the reduced stars regarding those for possible employment. They should note such on a site like indeed because I can tell you for the residents the staff hired there are truly caring and compassionate and hate someone to overlook checking this place out for the care of their loved one because of such.
