Our family kept my grandmother at this assisted living facility for nearly a year, and removing her was one of the best decisions we could have made for her wellbeing. She is wheelchair bound and has dementia, meaning she relied heavily on staff for basic dignity and care. Unfortunately, that care was consistently neglected. I honestly cannot remember a single visit where my grandmother was not sitting in a soaked diaper. There were countless times we arrived and her clothes, socks, shoes, wheelchair cushion, and even the floor beneath her were saturated with urine. The smell in her room from her sitting in wet clothing for extended periods was unbearable. Prior to moving into this facility, my grandmother was not incontinent. Because staff repeatedly refused or ignored requests to toilet her, she eventually became fully incontinent. Even when she would specifically ask to use the restroom for a bowel movement because she was embarrassed and uncomfortable going in a diaper, staff would still refuse or delay helping her. We would press her call light and wait 20–30 minutes or longer for assistance, and many times family members had to leave the room and physically track someone down ourselves. Even then, we were often told “someone will be right there,” only to continue waiting. There were also multiple occasions where her call light was either taken from her, buried in her clothing, or placed somewhere she could not reach it, leaving a vulnerable dementia patient unable to call for help. We frequently found her still in bed well into the afternoon, meaning she had missed meals entirely. Other times we would walk into a dark room with the curtains shut and lights off while she sat alone. The neglect led to constant UTIs, likely from being left in urine- and stool-filled briefs for extended periods of time. Family members often spent visits cleaning her room, changing bedding, or trying to make the environment sanitary instead of actually spending quality time with her. At times, even the bathroom and shower area were left unsanitary with urine and stool visible after transfers. No family should have to constantly fear leaving their loved one behind after a visit. This facility failed to provide even the most basic level of dignity, cleanliness, compassion, and timely care. I would strongly urge anyone considering placing a loved one here to look elsewhere.

I would strongly advise anyone considering placing a loved one here to look elsewhere. What you’ll find instead is a corporate-run facility that delivers shockingly poor care while prioritizing profits over people. The executive director, Nicole Gandee, appears to operate strictly as a corporate mouthpiece, showing little empathy for either staff or residents. Families are nickel-and-dimed at every turn—extra charges for basic services like meal delivery or medication assistance, even for residents who genuinely need help. The facility is chronically understaffed, relying heavily on temporary agency workers due to corporate cost-cutting. Brookdale’s leadership consistently allows greed to outweigh the well-being of both residents and employees. Even the food reflects this mindset: highly processed, low-quality meals comparable to institutional cafeteria fare. Save your money—and more importantly, protect your loved ones. There are far better care options available than anything Brookdale has to offer.

This assisted living community is amazing. The staff are kind, compassionate, and truly care about the residents. The building is clean, welcoming, and well-maintained, and there are always engaging activities happening. Knowing our loved one is safe and well cared for gives our family great peace of mind. Highly recommend!
