Brookdale Brookfield MC

My mom was a resident of Brookdale memory care in Brookfield for about 3 years. The entire facility was clean, bright and cheerful. The staff were excellent, friendly, welcoming, caring, patient, alert, helpful and attentive. I visited mom 2 or 3 times every week. The staff knew me and greeted me by name, and I knew their names. Communication was very good with the staff and management and with the executive director, Nicole Armstrong, who regularly reviewed and discussed mom’s needs and options with me. They have many regular daily activities as well as other seasonal and monthly activities, and I participated in many of them with mom. I know that mom enjoyed living at Brookdale in Brookfield.

My mom stayed at Brookdale in Brookfield in their memory care facility.The atmosphere was very warm and friendly. I visited her almost every day. The staff was amazing and so caring toward my mother and the other residents. I couldn’t have been more impressed and grateful for the care she received. They addressed issues and concerns immediately. The nurse in charge, Nicole Armstrong, made this difficult time in my family’s life much less stressful. She genuinely cared for our mother and we could see how much she cared for all the residents. I had numerous meetings with her where she explained my mother’s needs and what additional care would be required. I felt the cost was very reasonable. I have told my children that if I need to go into a facility, that is the only one I want to go in.

My dad, Melvin Krauss, was a resident at assisted living, and later memory care at the Brookdale Woelfel facility. We were so very fortunate to have found this facility, as it was the perfect match for my dad and his fun loving personality. The staff was always attentive to dad's needs and very accessible to my family...day or night. It takes special, caring people to work with residents who have memory issues. They bent over backwards to accommodate our dad's Needs. We visited dad 2-3 times each week and personally witnessed the compassionate care all the residents received. Kudos to all the staff and special thanks to Nicole Armstrong who worked tirelessly on our behalf. Note: we were so pleased with Brookdale, that my mom, who lived in Dallas, moved into independent living in Brookdale's Garland, TX location.

After losing her husband, my mother-in-law moved into the Brookdale in Brookfield (the one off of Bluemound Road) in July 2025. She required a walker and needed assistance in bathing. She was paying for the highest level of care out of pocket. While we were impressed by the food and friendliness of most staff members, she was not getting the care we expected and paid for. Although my husband visited daily, she was not being taken to meals needing help to transport because she was in a wheelchair. We purchased ensure to try to supplement but she lost 10 pounds within three months which is a lot for someone that weighs 110 pounds. During meal time, she was placed with a group of other women but after a month on her birthday they put her at a table by herself for an unknown reason. As she was adjusting to the facility and loss of her husband this response was very hurtful and bothered her a lot. Her call button was difficult to use. It was a new button system that required residents to hold the button firmly until it vibrated. Unfortunately staff were not responding in a reasonable amount of time or consistently responding at all. We asked if we could have the old style call buttons but they said they did not have any however someone that was admitted shortly after received one of those buttons. Nights and weekends were the worst times to get help. When responding, untrained staff did not know how to turn off the button so my husband had to train them how to do so. At times, she slept in her clothing from the previous day and was not changed. Her linens were soaked and she received several UTI's during her stay. She was supposed to get bathed twice a week but that did not happen. When asked, they responded that she said she did not want to bathe. I understand that she can refuse but we were not sure if she was even asked or encouraged to bathe. Because of the frequent UTI's, she became weak and required a sara stedy which we purchased to help transition her to her bed. My husband had to train some staff that did not know how to use the sara steady. We saw bruising on her wrists that looked like someone had grabbed her. She wore a gold cross with a gold chain daily. The gold chain was taken and replaced with a cheap chain by someone. This supports that she did not lose the chain but it was intentionally replaced. In addition, she said that a staff person had asked her to write them a personal check which we reported but she could tell us the name of the person. When she started using the sara stedy, they wanted to move her to a different building across the street with memory care. We toured the building then began to look for a new facility. We moved her at the end of November 2025. We are so glad that we did. In the new facility, she receives her baths twice a week. Yes, she can say no but somehow it is getting done. She is dressed in clothing with combed hair and even earrings put on. At night, she is changed into her pajamas with clean sheets. She has become stronger at the new facility and is receiving her PT consistently currently able to walk across a large therapy room no longer requiring a sara stedy. She participates in all meals, church, exercise class, and social events.
