Brookdale Briargate

The plain and simple fact…Brookdale Briargate is absolutely outstanding! My mother, who has dementia, has been a resident in three different communities in Colorado Springs over the past seven years. (Brookdale Briargate being the third community). All of the communities have been quite nice and accommodating. Brookdale Briargate is truly a step above every other community we have either visited or my mother lived with. The staff at Brookdale is second to none. Clearly, they REALLY care and it shows in everything they do! We have finally found the BEST place for the love and care our sweet mother deserves. Well done Brookdale Briargate!!

I am a Pet Therapy Provider with my Shih Tzu-Bichon pup, Bonnie. We have been doing weekly visits for Brookdale Briargate for almost 2 years now. I originally walked in and introduced ourselves to Debbie Kreiger. She welcomed us with open arms as my first appointment inquiry for a place to volunteer after Bonnie and I received certification for service. I immediately fell in love with her as she walked me through the corridors, introducing us to residents and let Bonnie work her magic. It brought tears to both of us. I signed on immediately and began our adventure. In the subsequent weeks, not only did I fall in love with the residents, but much of the staff as well. Everyone was kind, attentive to the residents, the surroundings were clean and full of joy. Debbie is so involved, recruiting volunteers to come and spend time with the residents and providing programs to involve the residents’ activities and even moving furniture when it was replaced this year! Richard is constantly busy with keeping the maintenance of the place running efficiently, able to do and fix absolutely anything. He is always so joyful! Roxie always has a big smile and treats for tricks with Bonnie. And Cheryl, the administrator, always welcoming, cheerful, and so compassionate. Last week I witnessed Cheryl working in the kitchen and dining area, cleaning up after lunchtime. I thought it was so amazing that an administrator was jumping in, helping out, wherever needed. Amazing dedication! I have been so proud to be associated with this facility and even considered relocating my sister here before she began to decline suddenly and passed this spring. Today I walked in and was informed Cheryl was no longer with the facility. I’m so sorry to hear the news and know she will be truly missed by all, and certainly by Bonnie and myself. Best wishes and love to Cheryl and all we have come to know and appreciate in our 2 years of service.

I have had the opportunity to be in and out of several memory care facilities in our community. At Brookdale Briargate it has been very impressive to see the Administrator Cheryl not only leading the community staff members and helping family members but she also on numerous occasions is sitting with a resident that needs to have some extra time to tell a story, redirecting or brining a snack to a different resident, or even gathering people to listen to music or sing. She really leads by example and is very involved in her community! So wonderful to see the connection she has with her residents, staff and family members.

The team work that I witnessed today, you don’t see often in facilities anymore. I was there working with a patient when you could tell there was a situation going on. It wasn’t pushed off on to others. Every team member from management to caregivers were hands on to keep the atmosphere calm and peaceful.
