Respite Care

Respite care is short-term or temporary care. Respite care can be provided in adult day centers, in private homes via home health agencies and in senior living communities, most often assisted living or skilled nursing facilities.

I have to say a word about the food at Bickford UA -- it's delicious! You can tell that it's good home-cooked food with just a few bites. No pre-packaged stuff. My spouse is a resident of Bickford and I frequently taste his meals and occasionally have lunch or dinner with him. We enjoy the food very much. Bickford is lucky to the kitchen staff that they do.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would! The management is absolutely terrible besides the Kitchen Manager and Director of Nursing they were the only managers that cared to listen to any concerns that was in the building. The Director does not even barely engage with the residents or staff unless there is a problem which she never tries to solve she pushes them on other people. The Director and Family Advocate is only there for the money and it shows. The residents suffer for their lack of professionalism and empathy and compassion with people. It drives a lot of employees out the door which causes such a high turnover over rate that the residents don’t receive the care they pay for. The facility is not clean and they work one housekeeper for the whole building thinking she can do it all. This place is horrible and I recommend if you do give it a shot just make sure the Director is permanently gone!

I can not recommend anyone put their loved one at this facility. Our loved one only stayed 4 months and during this time his physical and mental health declined. He was given 2 diagnosis by staff without any clinical evaluations by a licensed professional, and there was no substantiated documentation provided anywhere. There is no electronic communication between nurses and staff, so our loved one was without medication for 6 days until they could find out why it was discontinued. In our opinion this is not a medically safe place. We had such a difficult time getting answers, and equally from the corporate office. In addition, the facility needs so much capitol improvements (exterior doors don't lock, baseboards peeling off, the shuttle bus is old and needing replacement, ...) We also received erroneous billing and are in the process of awaiting a response from the corporate accounting department. Please read all the concerns in these reviews, they are all valid.

I sought input from friends, family and a care broker before touring numerous facilities. Bickford of Upper Arlington made the top of every list. The management team and staff are amazing. They are professional, experienced, kind, warm, compassionate and dedicated! The team goes above and beyond every day. My Mom is slightly introverted...so the team gently encourages Mom to participate in activities. My Mom is in good hands at Bickford! The director, Molly is active and involved...always connecting with residents and available to answer questions from family members. Molly is amazing. Thank you to all at Bickford for creating a safe, warm, compassionate space for my Mom.
