My Mom is 96 years old, with cognitive issues (not Alzheimer's) and expected physical limitations. She is in level 1 care. She doesn't handle change in anything well at all. The Bickford staff are genuinely caring and engaged. The setting is peaceful, and the institutional procedures and processes provide opportunity for and promote social interaction. My Mom enjoys Bingo a couple of times a week. Occupational and physical therapists are on site, and their work has helped Mom improve somewhat in memory and physical function. She will never get back to full cognitive and physical function; but I think the therapies are definitely helping. The therapists are available at extra cost through Fox Rehabilitation. There is a hairdresser/cosmetologist at Bickford, I think once a week. Payment for her services is separate from the assisted care costs. I can't think of anything that could be reasonably improved from a safety standpoint. Food is nutritious. As you might expect in a group feeding situation for older adults, the food can be fairly bland, though. The dining room has tables for two, four, or six people, and it is a pretty good setting for whatever level of socializing or isolation one wishes to have. I think Bickford has occasional outings for residents; but my Mom does not participate in those. I can't tell you how often they occur or what they are like. I especially think Bickford's level of concern and care is better compared to alternatives. So while one might find an occasional issue to nit-pick, I don't think you will find a place that takes care of people in need of assistive care any better, unless you go into significantly more expensive places -- and I cannot testify that they would get better care even then (I don't have experience or knowledge of very high-priced assisted living institutions). Assisted living is expensive, and there is no getting around it; but compared to alternatives, Bickford's prices are pretty comparable/reasonable; and the level of concern and care by the staff is generally a bit higher than places I am familiar with. It is fairly standard for assisted living facilities to charge according to required levels of assistance. I think there are four levels of assisted living, plus a higher level for those with severe memory issues (e.g. Alzheimer's). The charges for the higher levels of care are quite expensive; but I doubt there are better alternatives that are less so.

I’ve been so impressed with the positive changes at Bickford under the new leadership team! From the moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the welcoming, caring atmosphere. The team is attentive, compassionate, and truly committed to providing the highest quality care while making residents and their families feel like part of the Bickford family. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure residents are engaged, respected, and cared for with dignity. Communication has been excellent, and it’s clear that the new leadership is focused on creating a warm, supportive community for both residents and employees. If you’re looking for a senior living community where your loved one will be treated with kindness, compassion, and genuine care, I highly recommend Bickford. The dedication of the new leadership team is making a real difference, and it shows in every aspect of the community.

Bickford of Spotsylvania is a very warm and inviting, quaint community. The staff are very warm , caring, and always greet you with a smile. The staff are passionate and attentive to the needs of the residents. The community has a southern homelike feel that I don't see at other communities. They are person-centered focused. Meals are good, nutritious, and cooked daily from scratch. I have recommended several friends to Bickford.

My Mother has lived at Bickford for 4 years now. She has progressed and has moved to the Memory Care . Everyone that I have ever dealt with has been very helpful and kind. It is a beautiful facility and is kept clean. The services they offer has been very helpful for my Mom.
