Bedford Court

My mom moved here from Leisure World after my dad passed away. They had friends who had lived in Bedford Court (independent living) over the years (over 30 years at Leisure World) so they were familiar with the place. It used to be quite well run and was known for it's food service being particularly good. The business has changed hands since those days and has really gone downhill. The food service is a complete disgrace. The food is invariably cold by the time it is served. The kitchen and wait staff must be very poorly compensated. There is very high turnover for cooks and servers. The ones they find are the least competent people, as anyone with any skills quickly moves on to jobs that pay decent wages. This place is not cheap to live in and one would expect to at least be able to get a hot meal for the money (or even warm). The main elevator has been out of order for months, forcing residents who are barely mobile to make long go-arounds to get from one floor to another. No excuse for this. Complaints to management are completely ignored. There's high turnover there too. Seems like there is a new manager every few months and each one worse than the last. It's obvious to anyone sensible that the only thing Sunrise Corporation is concerned about is maximizing their profits and don't have any moral or ethical constraints.

I have been looking for independent living for my mom for a few months. Two things made Bedford Court unique. They had a representative who lived there show us around, which was so helpful in getting a feel for what the place was like. They also allowed my mom to do a trial stay. This experience basically changes how my mom feels about independent living - she had been reluctant to embrace the idea previously. And, I guess a third, the people. It was such a warm and welcoming group, they really won us over. Bedford Court has the amenities of many of the other spots, but the community makes it extra special.

As a professional in the area of senior living, it is difficult not to find fault with competing communities'. After visiting Sunrise Bedford Court several times, I can safely say, I would absolutely refer to this community. When walking in, the community is clean and welcoming. The concierge was engaging with residents as if they were family! The apartments were nicely sized and include everything that an aging adult needs to feel independent - built around safety outside the door! If you are looking for assisted living, this is your place to visit first!
