After my elderly parents were in a car accident, my brother and I had to move them very quickly. My mother and father lived in a condo in Brewster, and after the accident, they could not drive anymore. Since my brother and I live in Westchester, we searched for a perfect place. I called The Atria at Woodlands and spoke to Jan, who was incredibly helpful over the phone, providing much needed information about the Atria. The very next day, Jan met with my brother and me, showed us apartments, the entire facility, and explained everything we needed to know. With Jan’s help in the process, we decided to move my parents to Atria Woodlands. In addition, Jan provided us with recommendations to make the move easier. Atria has everything my parents need and the location is great! My parents are currently in independent living and doing very well!!

If you are reading this you are probably going through what I have in the last few years. Being a member of the “sandwich generation” is scary and stressful. Suddenly, we are the caretakers for our children AND our parents. I started looking for independent living facilities over a year ago when I realized my mom needed more support. I looked at many places, but Atria woodlands is the one that I consistently came back to. The instant warmth I felt there from the staff to the residents was profound. I first visited Atria Woodlands and met Jan Unger, the Sales Director, almost a year before we decided to move my mom in. During that time, Jan kept in touch with me and he was consistently patient and respectful. He truly understood that this was a huge decision for our family. I never once felt pressure from him. When we decided to move ahead, Jan walked me through everything and worked with us closely. And the day she moved in, he was there to support us and even brought us hangers! Fast forward to present day - my mom has been there for about 6 weeks and she is slowly adjusting. She was NOT happy about going there initially, but I’m hearing “ I should be in Florida” less and less. The feedback from her is always positive - the food is good, she enjoys the activities and goes to the movies every night. She is literally busy all day. The other day when I called her she said “ I can’t talk, I’m at happy hour!” Most importantly, she is safe and I don’t have to worry about her not eating well, etc. I visit often and I’m getting to know the staff and residents. It’s always nice to be there!

I’ve helped move several clients into Atria Woodlands, and every experience has been positive. The residents and their families always seem genuinely satisfied with their choice, and it’s easy to see why. The community is unique in that it offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care all in one place, giving families flexibility and peace of mind as needs change. From my perspective as a mover, the staff has consistently been friendly, kind, and incredibly meticulous. They’re seasoned professionals who know the industry well, and it shows in the way they prepare, communicate, and support new residents during the transition. The property itself is beautiful—set on a hilltop with impressive views that create a peaceful, welcoming environment. Overall, Atria Woodlands stands out as a well-run, caring community, and it’s always a pleasure to help new residents move in.

In my search for the right facility, I visited the Atria Woodlands in Ardsley, New York. As impressed as I was with the entire facility, Jan Unger is the most impressive asset you have there. He was warm and welcoming to me, and clearly connected with every single resident we encountered as we walk down the hallways. He has followed up with me, both with phone calls and emails, but never to the extent that it was annoying. Unlike personnel at some other facilities I have visited, he has never over-stepped in his follow up calls. When the time is right, I do hope to move to the Atria Woodlands. When I do, I sincerely hope Jan Unger is there to welcome me.
