What a gem of a community. I had been looking and touring so many homes for a while to find the perfect place for my mom. I was primarily looking for a place that felt like home but could also grow in care with her as she needs it. The community is charming as is but they are renovating and improving the community which I know will only make it more beautiful. As the sales consultant was walking me around on the tour, she noticed I was taking a bunch of photos to share with my mom and invited us back the next day for a carnival party they were having. First, impressive; second, so fun! I brought my mom and daughter back with me and my daughter did not miss a beat and jumped in on the water fun. Overall I was super impressed to see staff dancing, laughing, and having fun with residents but so was my mom. It has been a few weeks now and she is loving it at Astoria. She absolutely loves walking the trail around the community and all of the crafts they offer that keep her busy. Honestly, I think she has a better social life than I do now! 🤣

Although expensive, I feel my mom had good care there. The staff was very attentive to her and loved her. Management is poor. They raised my mom’s rate before I was notified about it. That being said, the nurse and I tried to set a care plan meeting but were unable to do so before the increase took place. I feel a phone call at the least to alert me to this is the least they could have done. I found out when I saw the withdrawal from her checking account. It was increased by over $6300/month. That depleted her savings and there was no Medicaid at this facility so she had to move. She died 2 months later. I have tried for 3.5 months to get paperwork I asked for. Received part of the refund I was promised but still waiting for the room refund that was agreed upon. The director I worked with is no longer there. The regional director called me from an unknown number. All I have is email and no one replies. I’m not letting this go. I will get that paperwork and the refund even if I have to involve my lawyer.

RECONSIDER!! When you place a love one in an assisted living facility you expect them to provide excellent service and quality care, but that’s not the case with this place. The head staff members don’t greet you upon arrival, it takes about 45 mins for the nurse to respond to a room call, the staff aren’t properly trained on how to administer medicine, and they can change the monthly rate without notifying you about the drastic increase. There’s construction taking place on the 2nd and 3rd floor where the workers have left tools, equipment and fixings on the floor outside of the residents room, which is hazardous and an eye sore. Save your money and your time and place your loved one somewhere else! My grandma did a quick decline at this facility and I truly believe the terrible care along with the long response times attributed to her suffering there. In fact, I know it did because after she transitioned my family didn’t hear anything from the head nurse or manager in regards to their condolences or sympathy. We trusted this place, but after reading my review I hope you learn from our mistake and reconsider!

This is a beautiful, classic building that's kept very clean, but most importantly the stories from the residents indicate that the care is wonderful, not to mention the top notch food! Communities managed by Agemark Senior Living have a unique culture in which they work really hard to create moments of joy for their residents through familiar activities and experiences.
