This is a review for America House memory care. First, I do not have anything negative to say about the caregivers as most were always very kind and caring to my dad, however I would NOT recommend putting your loved one with dementia here unless they have safety awareness, don't need assistance with daily tasks, don't fall and can pretty much take care of themselves. For the amount of money this place charges, they do not even provide toilet paper for the residents. My dad lived here for a year. At first everything was great because dad was pretty self-sufficient and needing minimal assistance, however as his dementia progressed, he needed more assistance and care. Well, this is where they failed us and him. He started having falls and not understanding the things he could and couldn't do, as happens with dementia patients. Their solution was 24-hour private care to the tune of $30/hr. That is over $20,000/month on top of the $7383 we were already paying the facility to "take care" of him. When we refused to pay that kind of money, he was sent to a rehab hospital twice in three months for about 12 days each time and if you know anything about this horrible disease is that a change in environment causes undue stress on the patient. He would get confused and scared not knowing where he was or who the people were around him. Our last straw was when I received a call from an ER doctor where dad was sent 4 times in 48 hours for which 3 were NON-EMERGENCY related issues. The first visit was due to a fall where he fractured his finger. One of the visits was to rewrap the soft cast because he took it off. I was told they could not rewrap it there and that they were not a "medical facility". The people running this place were not helpful AT ALL. It was like they didn't even care and offered no other solutions or guidance to help him or our family. Every time he had an incident or an accident, they just pushed his care off on other providers. We truly feel that we were "pushed" out because dad was not an "easy" patient. We were even asked to sign something releasing the facility of any liability when we wouldn't pay the ridiculous amount of money for private care. And don't even get me started on the lack of communication with the family. I couldn't even get the results of a urinalysis they did on dad and when my brother asked the director of the facility for them, he was told he didn't have that information. What? I could go on and on about the lack of communication and more disturbing, the lack of empathy from these people, especially now that dad is in a much better facility and being taken care of properly for someone in his condition. We could not be happier with his new home. I have spoken to the staff there more times in the last month than I ever did to anyone at American House in an entire year. When I call, I can get ahold of and speak to someone usually within a few hours if not right when I call. They are helpful not only to dad, but also to my family as we navigate the progression of his disease. I feel this is so important especially when you are dealing with someone who can't really speak up for themselves. I receive regular updates from the staff and have spoken to the facility primary care doctor twice already (I never spoke to his primary care doctor once at American House). He is already getting regular haircuts, shaves and nail trimmings which we couldn't ever get done at AH, even though they have a salon on premises. They keep him engaged and they really take care to mitigate falls and keep him safe, which is really all we want for him and why we put him in memory care in the first place! His dementia is still progressing, but the amount of stress put on our family and on him has been significantly reduced and that peace of mind is priceless. American House memory care is nothing more than glorified (very expensive) babysitting and I would HIGHLY recommend touring REAL memory care facilities because there are some really good ones out there where people truly care.

My wife and I found American House to be is clean, spacious, modern, and well staffed. The individual rooms and common areas are uniformly nice.

Was looking for pricing to determine if this would be a fit for our family. “Family Advisor” Ezara Maddox is unable to provide pricing info unless you visit the property. Not very helpful or great sales if you ask me. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time if it’s something we can’t afford. I hope the American House treats their residents and employees better than potential customers.
