Our father has been at Abbington of Powell for three years now. He had a very active and vibrant life before his stroke and subsequent Parkinson's diagnosis. Unfortunately, he was left with aphasia which makes it almost impossible to understand him when he speaks. He went from fully functioning to needing assisted living. We couldn't be more pleased that we chose Abbington. When he first arrived, he didn't want to leave his room. He didn't participate in any activities or even eat in the dining room. He didn't see himself as someone that needed assisted living. It took him some time to come around but now he participates in activities, eats in the dining room, has friends that along with the Abbington staff, love him very much. I can't say enough good things about the Executive Director, Leann Hamon. She goes above and beyond for her residents in the most compassionate way. She has succeeded in making Abbington a safe, comfortable and independent home for our dad.

My experience with Abbington at Powell Assisted Living has been overwhelmingly negative, and in my personal opinion, this facility’s 5.0 rating is completely misleading. What I witnessed and went through does not reflect a five-star environment in any way. From the moment you step behind the scenes, it becomes clear that this place struggles with serious leadership and organizational problems. The management team, in my experience, is disorganized, unprofessional, and often dismissive of both staff concerns and resident needs. Instead of creating a supportive workplace, management contributes to constant frustration, confusion, and unnecessary stress. There is very little consistency, even less accountability, and almost no genuine communication. It’s no surprise at all that the turnover rate is extremely high — people leave because the environment is chaotic and management does nothing to fix it. The instability among staff directly affects the quality of care and leaves those who remain overwhelmed and burned out. One of the biggest problems, in my personal experience, is Leann, one of the managers. I found her to be unreliable, inconsistent, and not transparent. She does not follow through, often contradicts herself, and creates situations that make the workplace even more unstable. In my opinion, her leadership style is ineffective and contributes heavily to the facility’s internal problems. When a manager cannot communicate clearly, cannot be trusted to keep their word, and does not support their team, it creates a toxic environment that affects everyone — staff and residents alike. The residents at Abbington at Powell deserve far better than what is happening behind the scenes. The employees who genuinely care are constantly put in impossible situations, stretched thin, and left to deal with problems management should be addressing. A 5-star rating should reflect quality, stability, respect, and professionalism — none of which align with what I personally experienced at this facility. In my honest opinion, Abbington at Powell Assisted Living does not deserve anywhere near five stars. In fact, based on my experience, I wouldn’t even give it one. I would not recommend this facility to anyone looking for a dependable, ethical, or well-managed assisted living community. Families and staff deserve honesty and stability, and unfortunately, I did not find that here.

We moved mom to Abbington in May. She was naturally nervous but the staff there made her feel welcome. Now she absolutely loves it. She's made several new friends and is quite content in her little apartment. My husband and I had lunch there today and it was really good.

We are so happy that we found Abbington of Powell for my Mom. The atmosphere is very warm and homey and the staff and residents have been very welcoming. Mom’s studio style apartment was completely refreshed and ready to move her furniture in. Mom is very happy here and feels very safe and well cared for. Mom is looking forward to making more friends and enjoying the many activities offered here!
