Care

Life Plan/CCRCs

Also referred to as Life Plan Communities, these communities offer a comprehensive continuum of care for residents. CCRCs offer multiple levels of care, allowing seniors to transition between independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care as their needs change throughout their aging journey.

Skilled Nursing

Skilled nursing and nursing homes are residential facilities that offer medical care and support for individuals that require a higher level of medical attention and assistance. These are staffed by licensed healthcare providers and offer a range of services to ensure the well-being and comfort of residents.

I have flown in to visit my parents at the University Retirement Community on many occasions. Whether they were residing in Independent Living or Mom in Assisted Living, I am very impressed with the quality of the staff working at University Retirement. So many genuinely pleasant, helpful and professional staff in one place is really quite amazing find. I fly home with the satisfaction of knowing Mom is happily cared for in such good hands.

We recently had the opportunity to spend a weekend trying out this community. We're almost 61 and thinking of our options not too far down the road. There is a great deal to be said for making a move sooner than later when it becomes too difficult, and one can maximize their investment into the community by starting at a younger age. I first heard of the notion of a early move from a resident of the Portland branch of this community who was in his early 60s. I believe more baby boomers will consider this option at a younger age and change the concept of a retirement home as a place for people in their 70s and 80s. We are looking for community for our later years and a place where we can be cared for if needed. University Retirement home is actively seeking to begin serving a younger population and so solicited our feedback with great interest. Although most of the people there are currently 70 and above, we noted that they were actively engaged in conversation in the dining room. Our host was an active tennis player in his 80s. Clearly this is a vital, caring community. We especially enjoyed the indoor pool and the special treatment we received as guests. Troy Martin, the marketing director, deserves 5 stars for his attention to our comments and hospitality.

Now that I'm used to living at home and I realize how much strength and stamina I lost while at URC, I must removie one Star. Despite numerous complaints about my very painful swollen knee to nursing and medical staff, nothing was done until my knee was so swollen that it hardly bent. Then they put me on bed rest for the next month. My muscles atrophied and at six months post surgery I still cannot walk more than 15 minutes without needing a lie down. The nursing staff and caregivers were GREAT but the underlying weakness has left me in a very difficult situation in my quality of life. I wish I had pushed harder to get appropriate, timely care. ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I’m rehabilitating my knee here at URC following a total knee replacement. This is the second time I’ve come to URC for post-surgical rehabilitation and I recommend this facility without any reservations. All the staff care about helping people heal. They are uniformly kind and helpful. It feels like family! It is an extraordinary experience. I feel safe and well cared for. During this pandemic they have had NO corona virus infections. That is quite amazing and speaks to the dedication of the staff. The Physical And Occupational Therapy is great. This is all I could ask for.

Everything about URC is high class and high quality. If you ever need a great haircut in the Davis area, go to Jaimie in the Salon in URC.
