Stay far away from this facility. My 92 year old father was admitted about a week ago with a broken hip and shoulder after being released from St. Vincent hospital. After a few days he developed a cough and started declining cognitively. We met with the care team two days ago who really didn’t tell us anything helpful and the cough was addressed. We were assured we could reach them or someone on their team anytime. The next day I visited and he was worse. I went to the young woman behind the glass nurses station and expressed my concern and asked if they were addressing the cough. I let her know I was concerned about pneumonia and if antibiotics were being administered or if he had Covid because the facility is experiencing a Covid outbreak. She treated me like I was overreacting and said they didn’t hear anything in his lungs and gave him mucinex. After she dismissed my concerns I met with my father who said he’d thrown up. I should mention for several days he wasn’t eating and they gave him a protein drink which he said he disliked which sat by his bed all day. Previously he pressed the call button because he needed to use the restroom and was told they were understaffed and to go in his diaper and they’d clean him up later. I went home and spent an hour calling the facility hoping to talk to someone who could give me more answers. I pressed every prompt including the one if you were a doctor and got nothing but recordings to leave a message which I did. Finally I got a recording that it was after business hours and gave up. I drove back to the facility and was able to talk to a Nurse (Carol) who said she was the only nurse there and that the doctor only came once a week. I expressed my concern about Covid and she said he was negative. I expressed my concern about the cough and she said she’d listen to his breathing. I informed her of his vomitting. I said I was concerning of a UTI as he has a catheter and his cognitive decline was similar to when my mom was hospitalized for a UTI. She said they could take a urine sample. This was at 7pm. At 6am the following morning Carol called me to tell me he had thrown up twice during the night and had 7 dark stool passings and thought there could be blood in his stool and his vomit. She said she informed the doctor who declined to order transport to the hospital and asked me what the family wanted to do. I said get him to the hospital immediately. A little after 8am, not much more than 15 hours since I first addressed my concerns which were dismissed he was diagnosed with double pneumonia in the bottom of his lungs, oxygen level in the 80’s requiring oxygen, GI track bleeding, and he was anemic requiring a blood transfusion. If it wasn’t for Carols concern to call me I can only imagine how fast things could have gotten worse. Right now they are considering the ICU and I don’t know if he will survive. So once again, stay far away from The Pearl on Kruse Way.

The Pearl provided excellent care for my husband after an extreme spinal surgery. He ended up with an infection at the hospital requiring emergency abdominal surgeries. After all of the surgeries my husband spent a month in the hospital and he was kind of at square one when discharged. When he started at the Pearl he was unable to stand. After his month long stay, he was in good enough shape to slide transfer from a wheelchair to his bed or shower/commode. He was also able to stand for brief periods of time. He progressed enough to join the intensive Rio Rehabilitation Program at Legacy Health. During his stay he received top notch care from Rio staff. They were very caring and met him where he was physically. The therapists pushed him to get where he needed for additional rehabilitation. Thank you Colin and Debra! The nursing staff were caring and as timely as they could be and several nurses were standouts (like Carol and Sherry). The weekends seemed to have less staff so things could take longer. That said, they were upfront about other work they needed to do before being able to help. And when they were helping, they took all the time and care that was needed. The food was very good with several alternatives if the main menu didn’t sound good. Bambi was great in helping set up wheelchair transport for appointments, Sondra helped coordinate lots of appointments and helped make Rio happen. Tawnya was amazing at coordinating transition to Rio and backup plans. Penny was the nicest therapy pooch. She lifts everyone’s spirits. I highly recommend the Pearl as a skilled nursing facility. Thanks for all you did for us!

I just left the Pearl after a 7 day stay. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for the excellent care that I received while there. The work they do is the hardest on earth, and they tackle it with kindness, compassion, and skill. They saved my life and, more importantly, my spirit. I am eternally grateful to all the staff and special thanks to Dalia, Sofia, June Bug, Lyric, Tiffany, Ben, Eli, Carol, Sara, Tearnen, Clinton, Emily, Nadia, the cleaning staff, the kitchen, and all the others who helped me or said 👋 while I was there. You are Angels. Blessing to you all, forever 🙏🏽. Sincerely, Karen

I am so thankful my mom was able to get her after hospital care at The Pearl. First of all this is just a BEAUTIFUL facility. It's like you are at a fancy hotel. It always smelled good there with some sort of potpourri that made the entire facility smell wonderful! Everyone there was so friendly and helpful. Mom was NOT the easiest person to work with (92 and some dementia) but the staff was so patient and respectful. I was impressed with their level of expertise and care they gave my mom. The food was also very good and there were many choices given to the patients there so that they can get good nutrition. Mom had several room-mates as her room was semi private and that is the only thing that was a little bit of a bummer because both roommates were hard of hearing and had their tvs on full blast. Mom is quite easy going and didn't seem to be bothered though! Mom spent three weeks here recovering from a broken hip and I just felt completely relaxed knowing she was in great hands at The Pearl. I highly recommend this facility.
