My mom decided on The Oaks. The staff is precious to her. She loves them all and they provide her with wonderful care. There are two issues that she is not happy about. The Oaks is very understaffed in both the care area and the dining facility. My mom requires very little care but when she is scheduled for a shower twice a week, getting one at 9 pm at night is unacceptable. Due to the understaffing on what appears to be the extensive care of memory residents (this is not a memory care facility) seems to be utilizing the time of the caregivers and the care of the other residents. The dining room is a whole different issue. The food is horrific. On top of the price they charge for meals, we now grocery shop so she has food in her apartment because so much of the food is awful (overcooked, cold, not what they say it is and no flavor). I have been to the nutrition meetings with her and everything goes in one ear and out the other. There has been no change. Aside from the fact that she loves the staff, we are looking into other options. This is not how our elderly should be treated.

Oh the things I could share with you about this place. They refused to have Dad transported appropriately to the VA, as requested and we've spent over $43K in transport costs over the past 2 years. I moved Dad because Blaine was the worst director of The Oaks ever. Never listened, never followed through and even admitted my father did not need to be transported even though he was. Dad was bitten by a dog at this home because no one is checking to ensure that the dogs that allowed to live there won't bite. We paid to have his room cleaned but upon my surprise visits, I can tell you nothing had been cleaned for months during covid. Check out the photos. As soon as we were allowed back in, I moved him immediately. I also often found pill containers with other people's room # on them laying around in his apartment. Dad was diabetic but one day when I showed up unannounced he had at least a 16 oz glass of orange juice, pancakes and a muffin that had been delivered to his room. No one could explain that either. Very dissatisfied, although Tha at the front office was the best thing that place has going for it. She was always respectful, took care of business when it was within her responsibility, and very helpful. In no way does my rating reflect upon her or her good work.

This is a wonderful place for my mom. When mom moved in she made friends and has enjoyed all the activities, including the field trips for shopping, tours and picnics. Everyone, residents and staff, are like family. She enjoys the atmosphere indoors and in the beautifully landscaped patios.

I visited The Oaks searching for a care facility for my mom. It was clean, the staff were pleasant, and the rooms were really spacious. Though my mom ended up needing long term skilled care, I would have been happy to have my mom move into this community.
