The Margaret T. Morris Center

Placing mom in a memory care center was a difficult decision but I no longer could fulfill her needs. Mom was alone and lonely, and my daily visits and care were not enough. My gut was telling me that mom was withering away, unhappy and unwell. I was looking for a memory care place already when an agency that was helping me with mom suggested MTMC. After the tour, my gut agreed with this suggestion. Mom is thriving at Margaret T. Morris. The difference in her attitude and the degree of interaction with others are amazing. She is smiling and active, she’s making friends and most of all she eats her meals and gets dressed to be ready for the day. She is happy. She is beaming. Thank you, MTMC.

My brother-in-law DJ spent the last 22 months of his life at the Margaret T. Morris Center (MTMC). It was the best place he could’ve been. Moving a loved one to a memory care facility is an extremely hard decision. The MTMC staff quickly earned our family’s trust. They taught us much about dementia care. They delivered individualized care with sincerity, humor and compassion, true TLC. Besides dementia DJ had multiple medical problems. The nursing care was outstanding. MTMC was designed and built for dementia care. Residents’ bedrooms open out to a large living room. This common area promotes a sense of community. DJ got to feel a part of the MTMC Family. A variety of activities are offered daily and can brighten a resident’s day. Some of the activities DJ participated in were arts and crafts, active games, spiritual services and town rides. The administrators were a great resource, providing ongoing family support. They helped us make difficult care decisions. Any issues were handled with sensitivity and transparency. Our family is so grateful that MTMC was an option for us. It was the best!

Our dad moved to the Margaret T Morris Center four months ago from another memory care residence in Minnesota in order to be closer to family. We are thrilled with absolutely everything MTMC has been able to provide him, in terms of care, activities, food, socialization/community, outdoor access, ... the list goes on! MTMC has also given us as family members wonderful support, including access to a caregiver support group that meets on line every other week. As someone who has seen four family members navigate the memory care journey, I have seen (and had loved ones living in) a wide variety of facilities in Arizona, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. I can honestly say that MTMC is the gold standard of memory care. They have staff and management with long track records of working there -- some into their third decade. MTMC is dementia-specific, so they can focus solely on the needs of those with memory loss issues. I also appreciate the fact they are a non-profit, which means they are not beholden to corporate interests/shareholders and can provide services that center the residents. MTMC is truly an amazing place for our dad to consider home in this last chapter of his life, and our family is so fortunate to have found our way here!

I just don't appreciate these memory care places advertising like they care for high end Alzheimer's patients with things like agitation and then when you ask in person or the patient demonstrates it they refuse them or kick them out. It is very deceptive and disruptive to the vulnerable patient. The sales pitches all seem to be the same so just be advised if your loved one needs advanced care they may not be there. Have a back-up plan.
