The Atrium at Drum Hill Reviews

My wife was a resident at The Atrium for 5 months. The staff could not have treated her with more care and love during her stay. They were wonderful to her and made her stay a most happy experience in spite of her failing memory. And they were wonderfully accommodating to me, her husband and all of her family and friends. I highly recommend The Atrium for your loved one’s care in a most difficult time.

It is difficult when you have to come to the decision to put a loved one in assisted living. So many questions, so many concerns. The Atrium at Drumhill answered all our questions and made us feel like family. This is a hidden pearl in a sea of facilities we looked into…

This review is long, but please read it to the end as it may very well help you to decide where to place your loved one. My father-in-law has vascular and alcohol related dementia. We placed him is a facility that we thought could accommodate his condition, but after an incident at the facility it became apparent that while this facility was good, it could not meet the more advanced needs of my father-in-law, so we began looking for a facility that offered a more advanced level of care (not skilled nursing facility level, but more advanced than standard assisted living). We wanted to find a place where he could live out his remaining days, however long that would be, where they not only liked him but were trained to accommodate his more advanced needs. Through APlace For Mom, we were introduced to facilities that were part of the Benchmark Standard of care, and in particular, The Atrium at Drum Hill. Now understand, the increased levels of staff traing and care come at a cost, more expensive than standard assisted living., but all these folks only do memory care. The staff goes through training on a regular basis. There are 2 wings to the facility, both memory care with both single resident units and less expansive 2 resident shared units, each wing with its own nurse and staff tending to the residents who reside in that wing. After hours there is always an on-call nurse. The ratio of residents to staff is smaller than a standard assisted living facility (even one with memory care), even at night. They make every effort to engage the residents so that they stay active both mentally and physically. If appropriate they bring in physical and occupational therapists to not only get the resident stronger, but to identify hardware that will help make the resident more comfortable (like in my father-in-law's case a raised toilet seat with handles, a raised shower seat that has handles and pivots, and a wheel chair seat cushion). Anything to help make the residents's stay safer and more comfortable. I would not have known what to buy my father-in-law without these specific recommendations. And a word about the management staff at the Atrium at Drum Hill. The whole management team meets and gets to know your family and helps to make your family member's placement a success, and stays actively involved all through the resident's stay. One more thing, they serve a varied menu of food, so it's not the same thing every day, and the food is both tasty and eye appealing. As I stated in the beginning, the accommodations are more expensive, but worth every penny, especially if you really care about your loved ones care, comfort, and safety. Hope this helps.
