The Addison of Cornersburg was described to me as a “hidden gem.” After having placed my mother there for a month of respite care, I have to agree. My mother said that she liked it, it was very clean, and it was a very nice place. The staff are excellent, and I feel that they really care about the residents and enjoy working there. When my mother arrived, there was a welcoming basket in her room that contained chocolates, hard candies, a mug, teabags, and a throw blanket. My mother had a stroke 6 years ago that caused left hand weakness and loss of dexterity, and she had recently fractured her right hand, which made it difficult for her to raise a cup up to her mouth to drink with having a splint extending past her wrist and covering the thumb on the good hand. Doug went out and bought her a nonspillable travel mug with a large straw, so she was able to drink much easier. She also has dementia and constantly asks what day it is. One day, I walked into her room and found they had placed a digital calendar monitor on the table next to her La-Z-Boy chair which had the current date and day of the week clearly displayed for her. When I dropped in unannounced one evening after work the week after she arrived, I was stopped in the hallway by a very friendly aide who asked me if I was my mother’s daughter. I was surprised that they not only knew every resident but also the friends and family that visit those residents. This was someone I had never met before, but she knew exactly who I came there to see. Equally impressive, she told me that she had just come from my mother‘s room to introduce herself because this was the first day that she had worked since my mother arrived, and she had just started her shift but would be giving her a bath later. At other facilities, aides would simply wait until they needed to do something for a resident to introduce themselves to them. The facility itself was not only very clean, but they also kept my mother very clean. They provide baths twice per week, whereas many other facilities only provide a bath once a week because I believe that’s the state requirement. My 91-year-old mother is incontinent and often also has mucus leakage from her bowels. Every time I visited her, she was always wearing perfectly clean, dry disposable underwear. She is the type of person that can leak mucus right after you change them, but there was never even a smudge of mucus on her underwear anytime I visited her, which was always unannounced and at different times of the day/night. Amy, the nurse at The Addison was also very helpful. She coordinated a virtual office visit with my mother‘s family doctor so that my mother could be approved for rehab with an outside agency. She also had an x-ray ordered and urinalysis performed the day before my mother left, which saved me the trouble of taking my mother to an x-ray facility and lab for those tests. Assisted living and respite care is expensive in general, but The Addison was very reasonably priced. One of the places that I inquired at was charging more than double the price that I paid at The Addison for respite care. In summary, this is a very clean place that takes excellent care of your loved ones with kind, caring, compassionate, and friendly staff. They offer a lot of activities throughout the day, including weekends. I wish they also offered daycare services because I would take my mother out of her current daycare program and bring her here if that were an option.

My mother has been a resident of The Addison of Cornersburg for 2 1/2 years and she loves it there. Like all businesses, they are only as good as the employees and management that run them . The level of care is excellent and has never diminished at any point in the 2 1/2 years of her residency. Prior to making the decision to make Addison her home, we visited several other facilities in our area. Many facilities boast about all the activities, and resident involvement within their communities, however, we never witnessed many people out of their rooms. At Addison the residents are engaged participants in multiple activities that you can see the second you walk through the door. Addison of Cornersburg is not just an assisted living facility, it's My mother's Home.

We found the Addison staff to be caring, helpful, and responsive to our Dad's needs. We are very grateful for each person who helped my Dad, and especially Pam. We found the Addison to be clean, when visiting, and always found my Dad's room picked up, and bed nicely made. We appreciate all that was done for my Dad.
