DO NOT put anyone there. Terrible place! Paid $1500 community fee for 3 months stay. Owe us for level of care while he was in hospital 3 weeks due to their poor care. They sent my brother to psych. hospital, unable to work with dementia problems, he had pneumonia & nobody knew. Corporate will not return calls or emails. Took 2 days for them to clean feces off his walls, they were busy with other things. A sales con that says they handle dementia, hidden costs, etc. Not an ethical place!

I took advantage of Strake Place's Respite Program for 2 weeks after knee replacement surgery. It was a relief to my family for me to have 24 hour care availability if needed and also to have meals prepared for me. It also provided space for walking several times a day. The care givers were very accommodating when I needed them. The living space was clean and comfortable with areas for visitors that were attractive and homelike. Wonderful place to be for 2 weeks.

My mother has been at Strake over a year now and we like it, mostly. It is very expensive. There has been some staff turnover but most of the staff have been the same since she came. The staff has been receptive to us when we have had concerns. They are pleasant when we visit and the food is good. I have heard some residents say they wish there was more to do than just play Bingo but I do see a schedule posted every month of goings on in the building, I'm not sure how many residents participate. We enjoy sitting outside on the patio when the weather permits. My mother was an avid gardener when she was able and I wish there was a waist high garden container for the residents to have gardening opportunities. There are pumpkins sat about in the courtyard this time of year; it looks nice and there are seasonal flowers that are planted. My mother enjoys the spinning art. I do wish a little more care was given to the outside areas though, and for a senior living place the doors to the courtyard should be automatic or open with the push of a button. It is difficult for older people using a walker or wheelchair who are unsteady on their feet anyway to open the doors to go outside with a pneumatic tension device trying to close the door. I think more of the residents would use the patio if it were easier to get out there. There are piles of dirty rags, empty flower pots, a bird bath that's not kept clean, some bird houses that are falling apart and yesterday there were cigarette butts on the patio. The tables don't look like they are kept wiped down for the residents to use so I have to clean them myself when we want to use them. Over all, I like Strake Place for my mother. This is an update from our experience at Strake Court. (formerly Strake Place) They have a new social director who has offered more variety of activities for the residents. My mother has become more active and has made some friends even though she suffers with her memory loss. There are beautiful seasonal flowers planted in the front of the facility but not in the courtyard where the residents can enjoy them.
