I have had my husband at Porter Place for 7 years. The staff takes very good care of him especially Tamika. She is patient, kind and does a little bit extra to make both my husband and myself feel comfortable. The staff is very quick to respond to my concerns which is very important to me.

My loved one has been at Porter Place a few years. I feel very comfortable that she’s well cared for. I like the staff and am thankful for a good quality home for her since I can no longer do it myself. I do understand that private pay facilities come at a premium price. Peace of mind means a lot to me.

I normally don't leave reviews, but I had to share my experience in hopes that others would find comfort in my experience. I have been on a journey to find my dad a place I can be proud of. You hear of so many horror stories. So I found Porter Place. I loved everything about! I toured with the executive director and went through all the particulars, but it was too expensive for me. I was so disappointed. After a few days I received a call from Yvonne Winston, the executive director. She followed up to give me some resources that included 3 Medicaid communities. I was not only shocked, but overwhelmed that she thought enough to call me. It's nice to come across people that truly have a heart to serve people in need.

We initially liked this facility, but the quality of care declined dramatically and ultimately led to my father being hospitalized multiple times. During visits we repeatedly found him sitting in urine-soaked clothing and feces, and he often had bruises, cuts, and injuries that were never documented or reported by staff. Some wounds on his legs were not properly cleaned or treated, which led to an infection that required hospital care. Medication management was also very concerning. Medications that were supposed to be spaced hours apart were given too close together, and staff could not provide clear records of what had been administered. My father’s first hospitalization was due to overmedication, leaving him unable to walk, eat, or speak with his blood pressure alarmingly high. He was not sent to the hospital until our family intervened. Once his medication was corrected to what his doctor prescribed, he returned to his baseline. His second hospitalization was caused by a severe UTI that progressed to sepsis and AFib. We discovered the symptoms ourselves and took him to the ER. As a result, he now requires a permanent catheter. Our family raised concerns multiple times with facility leadership, but nothing changed. With proper oversight and preventative care, these situations likely could have been avoided. Families should be aware of the serious issues we experienced here.
