Orchard Pointe at Terrazza

We were initially sold on the beautiful facility and amenities for my Mom in memory care at OP at Terrazza. The reality was that the in-house director position turned over three times in two years and was then eliminated. Management from the adjacent building was unresponsive. They created another level of care/cost without adding any additional care. The bed alarm was not allowed and she fell several times. The staff turnover was constant. They were likely over medicating Mom who was slumped in a chair. Once we moved her to another facility, she was alert and talking again. We contacted the corporate offices without any resolution. Be aware for your loved one that what was represented was not reality once we moved Mom into Orchard Pointe. She is doing great in her new facility which further assures me that our decision to leave this memory care center was a good decision!

In a nutshell, our family’s experience at Orchard Pointe at Terrazza was disappointing and unacceptable. Like many who are transitioning a loved one, we were scrambling with very little time. Attracted by the outward appearance of the beautiful building and the flowery sales promises, we neglected to ask residents/families about life on the inside. When our mom was dropped, we were told she fell…but that’s impossible because she is wheelchair bound. Memory care was understaffed, most caregivers lacked a basic understanding of dementia, employee turnover was constant, meals were difficult for residents to eat and the red flag reason we needed to get our mom out - the executive director told caregivers NOT to talk to family members about anything having to do with their resident family member. This should be illegal. Ravaged by advanced dementia, our mom can’t communicate; she can’t advocate for herself and families have every right to get feedback from those directly caring for their loved one. After experiencing the executive director’s weak leadership and lack of empathy, we understood why things were so bad. We reached out to corporate for help, but just as facility management failed us, Heritage Communities corporate only pretended to care. If you are looking for a senior care community, talk to families who have a loved one living there. Find a community where residents and families trust and respect management - leadership matters, especially in vulnerable elder care communities! Thankfully, we got our mom out and her new community is AMAZING. There are quality senior care centers out there. They are worth finding and they don’t feel anything like Orchard Pointe on the inside.

Orchard Pointe at Terrazza is such a beautiful community with kind staff and residents. I recently had attended the “Help My Senior” caregiving and med tech classes and the atmosphere of the class room was amazing!! You can feel the love and the light from everyone you meet. I highly recommend you give this place a tour when it comes to looking for stability and care for your loved ones :)

I took Shelly and Alicia's Cargiver Certification class at Orchard Pointe at Terrazza and let me just say it's a beautiful community. I looked at many caregiver classes but Shelly's class really stood out to me. More in class time than other certification classes means hands on experience. That beats distance learning by a mile! Shelly and Alicia made learning fun and the class was very informative. I will never forget this amazing experience. Thank you!
