Leadership turnover has been nearly constant for the past 6 months. The number of residents keeps dropping. There has not been a consistent activities program in months. Concierge hours have been significantly reduced so after 5 pm residents have to actively search multiple floors if they need assistance. Supposedly chef designed meals are an embarrassment to chefs everywhere and they have consistently declined. The promo photos for meals are a joke compared to what residents are actually served—dinner tonight was a few chunks of turkey on a plain piece of white bread, an ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes and overcooked frozen mixed vegetables, all slathered in congealed brown gravy. The soup was a room temperature watered down cream of mushroom without mushrooms. The ‘fresh fruit’ was 10 minute pieces of over ripe watermelon and pineapple. Direct service staff are very kind and helpful but too few to provide any consistent presence of support. It is an extremely isolating environment with most residents spending the majority of their time except meals in their suites.

If you care about your loved one, DO NOT bring them here. Activities are not appropriate for memory care residents, only the assisted living and dependent care people. Too many people needing extra care in the memory care area and then the rest are neglected and not given enough attention. There are safety issues such as plate covers not on sockets, sparks coming out of sockets when being used, slippery wet bathroom floors and residents half falling out of wheelchairs and walking around without assistance when they should be using walkers/wheelchairs. My dad had 11 injuries in only 3 months of being there and we yanked him out for his own safety. Please take my word for it...it's not safe there!!

I loved it when it was Sunrise of Golden Valley and I still love it now that it is New Perspective of Golden Valley. The staff are very caring. When I walk in the door, I feel as though I am visiting family. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I feel secure in the knowledge that my mom is well taken care of. I and my sister are there nearly every day. We love visiting mom in a place that is just like home!

My father has been a resident of Sunrise for over a year now and I have to say that it was a rocky start due to frequent staff turnover. However, the new leadership has organized processes and care teams that have helped significantly with the family and resident experience. I have sat with my father for hours at a time and observed how the staff treats residents and does their best to make a tough time easier. They accommodate requests for meetings with the care team and have gotten to know my father well. There are numerous adjunctive services available as well for residents who are able to participate. These services include fishing trips (!) movies, music, concerts, bingo and basic physical movement activities. We have had easy and quick access to PT, OT and companion care for my father. While we all wish aging were easier, I think my father is in the best situation possible given his health concerns. You do have to stay aware of your family member’s needs, but if you want to be involved, Sunrise staff makes it very easy to do so.
