Legend of Allentown Reviews

Today, I was able to experience The Legend at Allentown. This community is well maintained kudos to the operations crew. I met with Tracey,Susie, and Leslie as they toured me around the community. Lots of activities going on, very active, lively community ! My dining experience I felt like I was in an elegant restaurant. During lunch, I sat with a few residents, and many chimed in on our conversation. We discussed how much they enjoy the food, activities, and size of their apartments as well as the staff and how "It feels like home." Thank you !!! Residents and staff, for todays experience, it was wonderful

I recently visited Legend of Allentown, and I was thoroughly impressed by the cleanliness of the community. I visited several other communities in the past and couldn't get past the trash in the parking lot and how the building didn't smell fresh and clean. Legend of Allentown definitely takes pride in their community. The staff also seemed very engaged with the residents. The care staff were knocking on resident doors to see if they wanted to participate in Happy Hour. It was great to see residents engaging with either other and making new friends. Kudos to Legend of Allentown!!

Legend of Allentown is indeed aesthetically pleasing, and there are some outstanding staff members. Before relocating your loved one, consider the following: 1. How many resident directors have there been in the last three years? 2. Sample their "Gold Leaf Dining Experience" by trying a few meals. 3. Ask about the permanent to temporary staff ratio. 4. Inquire about continuity of care and communication between shifts. 5. Ask about their "Census Policy." 6. Call the main number after 8 pm to check responsiveness. Our heartfelt thanks go to Jason, Pam, Susan, Jill, Cheryl, Lesley, and Amy, who truly care about residents and families. I hope you get a new director who values their staff and treats the residents with humanity.

My dad and I enrolled my mom in the memory care unit at the Legend facility in May of 2024. Before she moved in, we took the tour and asked lots of questions to be sure it would be a good fit for all parties. After expressing our concerns for my mom, we were given assurances that she would have a 1:1 staff for the first week to help acclimate to the new setting and have plenty of activities to keep her busy and engaged. Unfortunately, that never happened. In fact, no one bothered to contact us after the first week to even ask how things were going. Needless to say that was deeply concerning, especially since we brought my mom home after a few days and nobody even noticed. As far as their activities - they had Music Memories class, but no staff were present. They simply had an mp3 device playing music while 2 residents sat beside it fast asleep. Another day we observed their Stretching/Exercise class and once again, no staff present. There was a DVD video showing some lady doing aerobics while a small group of residents sat in front of the TV. The next day we visited and wanted to join in an arts activity, but it was cancelled. Just keep in mind, there are only activities between 9am-4pm each day so residents who wake early or stay up late are out of luck. Regarding the staffing, this wasn't just some random occurrence - each day we visited, there was hardly any staff to be seen on the unit. And when we did notice them, they were cleaning the bathroom or giving medication. The sad reality is that we regularly saw the residents wandering around aimlessly or sleeping in a chair/sofa with no staff around. We also encountered a lack of transparency from management regarding the staffing ratio. When we asked about it, they refused to give a number, saying that it varied based on occupancy. Making matters worse, on one particular day my dad visited and wanted to join my mom for dinner. However, no dining staff were present and residents were growing restless - so my dad had to visit the front desk to remind them to feed everyone. Their excuse - there was a staff meeting. At 430pm? I can't help but wonder how long the residents would have waited to be fed if my dad didn't intervene. In the end we removed my mom from Legend soon after moving in. We simply felt the lack of proper staffing posed a safety risk as well as the not enough healthy interaction. Considering that she enjoyed going out into the courtyard, it also worried us that she (or any resident) might fall and there would be no staff around to help her. Mind you, the facility is state of the art, beautifully decorated and clean. However, it's by far the most expensive in the area at $8000/month for memory care (plus a $2500 one-time fee). But what good is a gorgeous facility for your loved one when there's not enough staff to keep them safe or stimulated? In the end we were extremely disappointed with Legend and didn't feel that my mom would be safe there.
