I took my mom and aunt to tour the facility , and we were very surprised to see that we had been nervous and an anxious for no reason. My mom and aunt had assumed that we were going to look at a nursing home, regardless of how many times i protested that it wasn’t. They figured it was like wrapping up dog doo, in a pretty package with a bow, no matter how sparkling the package looks on the outside the dog doo is still going to stink on the inside. But they were wringing their hands for nothing. The place was very nice. I honestly had no idea that there was such a place that existed. The staff was always smiling and working. Not huddled up at the desk scrolling through their phones. There were no cries for help going unanswered and the constant ringing of alarms, being ignored or drowned out by the staffs gossiping about their weekend plans. They greeted us with hellos and asked our names rather than rushed past us with their music blaring in their earbuds. The residents were coming and going and they were all visibly relaxed, some were in the comforts of their own apartment with the doors shut and locked for privacy and some were in the hair salon, and most were at the cafeteria having what looked and smells like a delicious meal. It was salmon if i remember correctly. There were nursing stations at every corner and each one was manned by at least 2 or more nurses. They showed us the laundry room, the post office, the salon, and the herb garden for fresh herbs. I seen several groups of families that were visiting their loved ones, they looked very content with just hanging out and staying for a while, one resident was getting back from spending time with family outside of the facility for most of the day. Others were happy with having a meal with their loved ones as well as several other residents who pulled up a chair as they all crowded one table and ate together like a big family. There were no residents slumped over in their wheelchairs facing the entrance hoping to see a familiar face or pushed into a circle of overmedicated forgotten souls, with their wheels locked to prevent them from moving much like shackles to the wall, nursing home style. The air was filled with the smell of lunch and a few of the familiar classic grandma perfumes, Estée Lauder’s beautiful, L’air Du Temps Nina Ricci, Chanel no.5! No urine smell. That was the first thing I noticed. Just roses and musk! And I seen lots of the women that were wearing their best polyesters and they had their hair done and makeup on! Rather than being made to wear the same nightgown for several days and nights. So in conclusion, this is as far from a nursing home as you can get. And my aunt and mother both agreed that this would make a wonderful home not too far from home. We hope that the financial part gets done soon (which was as painless as it could be ) and I am excited to see them both start a new chapter in life full of friends and good help!

Living The Dream

This facility accepts who they want to accept regardless of whether you meet the criteria or not. My experience with them was jumping through hoops, rude employees with no compassion. I began this process of getting my sister in 4 months who met all qualifications but when it came to the assessment with the nurse (DAWN) she was anything other than helpful. Because, my sister (83 years old) was mumbling under her breath about the assessment process (DAWN) took it as if my sister didn’t want to move there and used trickery questions to confuse an 83 year old woman. Let me add that my sister has a disability. I spent so much time away from work to make sure that the facility had everything they needed and one person (a nurse) made the ultimate decision. NO. I am filling a complaint with the BBB because their process is broken. Point: my sister had already done an assessment and it was fine but there was a 60 day expiration date. Why, would they do the assessment first when the other three parts of the process were not completed? Totally unacceptable!

This is a horrible place for seniors. The management treats seniors like prisoners. The food is horrible. The medical help is abusive. The dining room is filthy. When seniors try to get help the management labels them as trouble makers. The seniors who live there are dear people and do not deserve to be treated so badly but they cannot fight back so they just take it because they don't think anyone can help them. I lived there for three years and I desperately tried to get them help but I was abused by the staff and the ones who did try to help were fired or left before they were. I still keep in touch with my friends I left behind and they tell me nothing has changed. It is so sad because it is a nice facility and the rooms are beautiful. I believe with new management this would be a wonderful place to live. Please someone rescue these seniors!

I have only been here for 2 1/2 weeks, but the process of my application has me familiar with John H. Johnson Care Suites for several months. From the moment I went in for a tour, everyone has been Amazing. Ms. Penny is extremely PROFESSIONAL and COMPASSIONATE!!! She always took my calls, if I hit a roadblock, she was instrumental in helping me through it. She has my complete Respect and Admiration!!!! The entire Staff has been Wonderful during my transition. The food is great and nutritious. My medication is always ready and correct. Very clean and sanitary. I would like to send a Special Thank You to Nurse Dawn. Thank you for being So Great at your Job!!! You made me feel comfortable the moment I met you!! I could go on for a long time, but I will stop here. John H. Johnson Care Suites is an Amazing Center!! I am very Grateful to be here. With great respect, Lisa Collins
