We were looking for a personal care hone for my 95 year-old mother-in-law after she had a heart attack and stroke days apart earlier this year. We met with Alex Koter and he was very welcoming. He asked my MIL about her interests, hobbies, food preferences, etc. He showed us a few apartments, gave us a tour of the building and grounds and ordered lunch for my MIL. Everyone we met was very welcoming and friendly. They all chatted or interacted her. Once we discussed the cost, we realized it was beyond our budget so we sadly had to let Alex know. He was so kind. He offered to continue to invite us to activities and functions at Hemsley House and he even said he would reach out to contacts in the industry to help us find a place within our budget. A few days later, Alex called to let me know he had an apartment with lower rent and suggested we bring my MIL for an assessment. After everything was said and done, the apartment was now within our budget and my MIL will be moving in soon. I can't say enough positive things about Alex, he went above and beyond to help get my MIL there. Overall, we visited Hemsley House a few times, and each time everyone remembered my MIL's name. On one visit, she was talking about her favorite food and someone who was passing by offered to have some made for her. She is looking forward to meeting the other residents and some group activities. My husband and I are looking forward to watching her recovery progress with all of the new opportunities offered at Hemsley House.

I am responsible for my uncle's care. I live five hours away and rely on the services of Hemsley House to take good care of him. It is a beautiful facility that provides a safe, very clean and caring environment. He and I love the outside porches and flower gardens and our walks around the building. The meal service provides many options that can please a fussy eater like my uncle. My uncle loves his bright room and has made many friends who look after each other. He often comments to me how the staff treats him very well. It is very appreciated by my sisters and myself that the caring professional staff have been able to meet his physical and medical needs as they change. I cannot thank them enough for the help given to me when I had questions and concerns about the transition from Sunrise to Hemsley House. Communication has been more responsive in a timely manner. Nathan was of great assistance to me showing me options that would benefit my uncle when needed. It takes special people to provide such important services to our loved ones. I am happy to see the changes that are taking place. It is deeply appreciated.

Hemsley House of USC is awful. They do not have enough staff to care for the residents. Call pendants are given to the residents, but they either do not work or the staff does not care enough to answer them. Your loved one could be lying on the floor ringing for assistance, but no one comes. Management promises to address the long wait times for assistance, but they do nothing. My father’s apartment smells of old, stale urine because the staff throws his soiled clothes into the hamper instead of washing them immediately. Furthermore, if you choose a room tray instead of going to the dining room to eat, your meal will arrive ice-cold; you must wait until everyone in the dining room has finished eating before they bring a tray up. The building itself is outdated, dirty, and leaves a lot to be desired. If you are looking for a place for your family, skip this facility altogether! It is terrible!

Hemsley House of USC does not meet the standards of other personal care homes in the area. The facility feels dark and dismal and severely neglected, requiring a major aesthetic and structural update. The furniture is old and heavily worn down. The carpets are outdated throughout the building. The dining room features an old carpet that looks as though it has never been replaced. Dining tables were visibly beat up and sticky to the touch. The memory care floor lacked basic hospitality amenities. No fresh coffee, snacks, fruit, or quick grab items (like chips) were available for residents or visiting families.
