My wife's dad recently moved to the Carolina Reserve from independent living. We like the convenient location near Southpoint. My father-in-law has made many friends and loves being part of the community. Some of his favorite activities are bingo, jeopardy, the cooking classes and the spa. The facility is clean and the staff is great, especially Rebecca. She is very responsive and communicative with my wife. Picture below from red carpet fashion show event.

I cannot thank John enough for taking the time to speak with me about my parents. He was incredibly helpful in determining what level of care we need moving forward and what our options are. While I only had my one visit, the facility was very clean, several staff members I talked with were kind and welcoming and there were several residents around, all of whom looked happy and spoke highly of the facility.

My sister and I had to get our dad out of a horrible place in PA (Sayre Memory Care Residence) quickly. He was so poorly cared for that we reported the facility to the state of PA, but of course when state went into the facility, things were fine. I live in NC, my sister is in PA. I could move our dad quicker than she could. So I visited some places in Durham, and my sister and I made the decision to go with Carolina Reserve of Durham. We could not be happier. Is the facility perfect, no. But there isn’t going to be any place that is. Our dad is 93 and has dementia, yet is still pretty functional and verbal. We were told that the staff would “meet our dad where he is” and that is exactly what they have done. The activities and overall gut feeling that he would be well cared for are what clinched our decision to choose Carolina Reserve. Hannah Dixon, the activity director for Memory Care, is FANTASTIC. Terri Holland, Clinical Services Director, is FANTASTIC. Brittany Munn, Executive Director, is FANTASTIC, John Harnett, Sales & Marketing, is FANTASTIC. I don’t have experience with all the staff, but visiting every day, I have gotten to be familiar with faces and everyone is very friendly and welcoming. The staff is very caring and responds to requests as quickly as possible. There needs to be an understanding that facilities like this are juggling many things at one time. I get that and have let them know that I am there to help care for our dad any way I can. I have recommended Carolina Reserve of Durham to folks I know who might be looking for assisted living and/or memory care. FYI - I have never posted a review on Google before. I felt moved to review Carolina Reserve because of how much our dad has come back to us (his personality was completely gone because the PA facility gave him antipsychotic medication which Carolina Reserve has weaned him off of because is was determined it was not necessary) and it’s wonderful to be able to visit him every day, love on him, and help the staff enable our dad to live his best life. He has even found a special friend which is so heartwarming to know that this loving, caring part of our dad is still alive and well.

My dad moved to Carolina Reserve about 4 months ago. It is an extremely convenient location. Overall he is doing great and is thriving compared to how he was doing at home. He enjoys the meals that Darry prepares and sitting on the porch. Management (John and Brittany) are great and are responsive when I have questions/concerns. My dad likes his caregivers and says that take good care of him. Jada the med tech is always kind and helpful when I see her. Brandon the Bayada Physical therapist has helped my dad tremendously. I would recommend checking out Carolina Reserve if you are looking for an assistive living facility for your loved one.
