Caretta Maplewood Reviews

This facility has been open for a little more than a year. Please, do your due diligence and ask how many Executive Directors, how many Directors of Nursing, and how many Life Enrichment coaches they have had during that time. The number will astound you. (They also have an incredibly high turnover rate in other positions as well.) There are positive reviews. Some from employees and others from a Prom they held which residents and their families appeared to enjoy. Beyond that, from my experience during the very short time my Mom was a resident and from talking with other families, the residents are lonely because there are simply not many. My Mom was also treated horribly. One example - My Mom soiled a pair of pants (a tiny spot on the back where the elastic is) and an employee shamed her and threw her pants away; pants I had purchased the previous week. They did refund me for the amount of the pants, but to shame my Mom for simply being a human who is struggling with Cognitive decline was gut-wrenchingly painful. The good news is, I removed her and found a facility she absolutely adores. They treat her with respect, patience, kindness, and understanding; and they have several activities throughout the day to keep residents engaged. When you walk in the door, you can instantly feel the warmth of a loving atmosphere. Residents sit out where they can be seen and where they are continually cared for. I did extensive research in finding my Mom such a place and the validation of knowing I chose the right place comes when other facilities call to follow-up with me to see if my Mom has been placed somewhere. All but one has said, “Even though we are sad you did not choose our community, we have heard great things about where your Mom is, and she will be well cared for.” This is coming from people who know. Caretta may be enticing because it is a newer building and the food appears appealing, but beyond that there is a substantial need for improvement. They’ve had over a year to work through their growing pains and smooth out bumps in the road, but that simply has not happened. My Mom went from being treated horribly to being treated as she should. She has truly found a soft place to land and I could not be more grateful. So, if you are considering Caretta for a loved one, again, please ask the questions - How many Executive Directors, how many Directors of Nursing, and how many Life Enrichment coaches have been there since they’ve opened. And also, inquire about the number of residents in both assisted living and memory care. Consistency is important, especially when dealing with vulnerable populations such as our elderly. Being treated with dignity and respect is also important. Our elderly matter and because of that, I would not recommend this facility.

While my sister lived only a few months in Caretta, she enjoyed the time there. Her one bedroom apartment was large, light and airy. The staff was friendly and helpful, but respected her privacy. The food was good and varied and other residents were friendly. It was much like living in a small apartment building.

The prom event was a hit! Good tunes, excellent food, and they even did the make up for the lovely residents. Hearts of gold!

The building is brand new, and you can really feel the difference—everything is modern, bright, and designed with comfort in mind. It's located in a convenient but quiet part of Maplewood, close to parks, clinics, and shopping, which makes things easy for both residents and families. The staff truly care, and it shows every day in the activities, care, and dining services.
