My wife was found to have Alzheimer’s several years ago and I went to a number of support/educational groups to try to learn what we were in for, how to care for her, myself and our 16 year old daughter still at home. I finally found Cappella's and have really started learning things that I can use!! Cappella’s support group meets monthly and the group has been an invaluable source for new meds, services, community resources etc., and Barbara is a wealth of information. What a great time of camaraderie and cookies!!! Cappella’s also facilitates Knowledge at Noon monthly which includes lunch and a seminar/presentation typically by a local vendor, covering a topic relevant to us Caregivers. We have learned about Medicare, the PACE program, keeping our person safe at home and my personal favorite, the SPECAL Method which has changed my whole perspective as a caregiver! Memory Cafe is another great service Cappella’s provides. This is a dinner once a month for Caregivers and their person to get out and enjoy the companionship of others going through the same things so no need for embarrassment or stress. By the way, the meal is first class too! All of these are provided at no charge as a way to help us deal with the changes with our loved one, and I look forward to these every month. If you want a surprise, ask for a tour of the facility. Cappella’s has different levels of care available in a very modern, bright and airy environment. Since my first visit I was impressed with how clean everything was, how friendly the staff is and how it feels more like a luxury hotel than a care facility. My favorite part?? No noxious smells!!! Thank you Cappella’s!! Thank you Barbara!!

My experience with Capella is rather limited so far. My only involvement has been attending the memory care dinners and the caregiver support group. That said, they have both been supportive and helpful. Barbara has been a great hostess and has done a fantastic job of organizing and carrying out these functions as well as the Knowledge at Noon. These have been very helpful as far as connecting us folks that have the unfortunate situation of becoming caregivers and gleaning information that is very helpful and supportive in this less than ideal situation.

Our experience with Capella has primarily been through the support programs they generously provide to our community. Our current personal journey includes primary care for my Mom, and Mom's life with substantial physical limitation and advancing memory decline/dementia. When we started this part of our journey (and along the way) it was often overwhelming. For nearly three years, Capella has been our special place for support, encouragement, and educational opportunities through monthly support gatherings, social dinners (Memory Cafe), and relevant lunch seminars. Capella, with Barbara Schumacher eloquently leading the charge for these services, has welcomed my Mom and me into a new family of amazing individuals who care about and encourage each other, and enjoy our loved ones together with compassion. Laughter, tears, personal friendships, and educational opportunities have all played key roles in navigating a difficult disease with respect and dignity. It's with genuine gratitude and highest regard for all of the kind individuals make this happen at Capella!
